2018 BDO World Trophy
The 2018 BDO World Trophy was a major darts tournament run by the British Darts Organisation. It was host between 30 May and 3 June 2018 at Preston Guild Hall, Preston, England. Peter Machin and Aileen de Graaf were defending their champions, after beating Martin Phillips (10–8) and Anastasia Dobromyslova (6–2) respectively in the final of last year's edition. Machin lost to Michael Unterbuchner 7–1 in the Quarter-finals. De Graaf lost in the First round 4–3 to Maria O'Brien. Unterbuchner went on to lose in the final of the men’s event to Glen Durrant (10–7), who has now completed the ‘triple crown’ of BDO majors. In the women’s competition, Fallon Sherrock won her second televised title with a 6–3 win over Lorraine Winstanley. Preston Guild Hall
Preston Guild Hall is an entertainment venue in Preston, Lancashire, England. History The Guild Hall was commissioned to replace the town's Public Hall. The new building, which was designed by Robert Matthew, Johnson Marshall, was due to be ready for the Preston Guild of 1972, but after construction was delayed, it only officially opened in 1973. The complex has two performance venues, the Grand Hall which holds 2,034 people and the Charter Theatre which holds 780 people. There is direct pedestrian access, via footbridge, from the adjacent Preston bus station and car park. Artists that have performed at the venue include Martha Argerich, Morrissey, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, The Jackson 5, Thin Lizzy, Busted and Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel among others. Mark McGeeney
Mark McGeeney (born 28 June 1972) is an English professional darts player from Coventry, Warwickshire. He currently plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career BDO In August 2010, McGeeney won the Weoley Castle Open, beating Kevin Taylor in the final. In September 2014, he won the England Classic; he beat Sam Hewson in the quarter-final before beating Wesley Harms in the final. In April 2015, McGeeney won the Lincolnshire Open by beating Joshua Richardson in the Final. In September 2015, he won the British Open beating Scott Waites in the final. Jeffrey Sparidaans (born 8 September 1993) is a Dutch professional darts player, currently playing in Professional Darts Corporation events. Career In 2015, Sparidaans won the Czech Open. In 2016, he won the Swiss Open. in 2017, he won the England Classic and Hungarian Classic. Dean Reynolds (darts Player)
Matthew Francis Dean Reynolds (born 21 July 1992) is a Welsh former professional darts player. Career Reynolds' first Development Tour title came in 2014 by defeating Max Hopp 4–2. He also won the 16th event by edging past Josh Payne 4–3. Reynolds beat Ryan de Vreede 5–4 to claim the 2015 French Open title. He also took another Development Tour event with a 4–2 victory over Mike de Decker. In 2016, Reynolds enjoyed a breakthrough year. Kyle McKinstry
Kyle McKinstry (born 26 August 1986) is a Northern Irish professional darts player who is currently serving an eight-year ban from the sport after admitting to match fixing in 2020. Career In 2017, McKinstry won the Hal Masters and the Northern Ireland Open. He qualified for the 2018 BDO World Darts Championship as number 17 in the BDO rankings, but he lost 3–2 to Richard Veenstra in the first round. Conan Whitehead
Conan Whitehead (born 18 February 1986) is an English professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is a former quarter-finalist of the BDO World Darts Championship. Career Whitehead has competed in numerous competitions throughout his career, starting in 2008. In 2009, he won the 2009 Kent Open, beating Steve Douglas in the final. Since then, he has only been in one other final. This was in the 2016 England Open where he lost 3–6 to Glen Durrant. Andy Baetens
Andy Baetens (born 24 February 1989) is a Belgian professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is the reigning 2023 WDF World Darts champion, becoming the first Belgian player to win a world title. Baetens is also a four-time winner of the Czech Open and bronze medalist of the WDF Europe Cup. In the period from May 2023 to January 2024, he was the leader of the World Darts Federation men's ranking. Gary Robson (darts Player)
Gary "Big Robbo" Robson (born 19 June 1967) is an English professional darts player who plays in World Darts Federation events. Robson now resides in the small rural village of Rothbury, Northumberland. Career Robson qualified twice for the World Championships, but was beaten in the first round on each occasion. He made it for a third time in 2004, but found himself 2–0 down in sets against Steve Coote. However, Robson recovered and took the match to a sudden death deciding leg, which he won. Bobby George commented that "you won't see browner darts in this tournament than that match". Robson had another excellent performance in losing to 'Silverback' Tony O'Shea in the second round. James Hurrell
James Hurrell (born 7 July 1984) is an English darts player. Career BDO Hurrell reached the Last 32 of the 2015 World Masters, he played Martin Phillips and lost 3–2 in sets. He qualified for the 2016 BDO World Darts Championship and was beaten by Larry Butler in the preliminary round, During 2016 he hit a 9 dart finish against Daniel Day. Willem Mandigers (born 4 June 1989) is a Dutch professional darts player who competes in World Darts Federation events. Career Mandigers won the Turkish Open in 2014. Wesley Harms
Wesley Harms (born 11 June 1984) is a Dutch former professional darts player. Career Harms won the BDO International Open in 2011, defeating Stephen Bunting in the final. Harms qualified for the 2012 BDO World Darts Championship as the 13th seed. He defeated Martin Phillips, Robbie Green, and fellow débutant Paul Jennings to reach the semi-final where he was defeated 6–5 by Tony O'Shea.
