2017 WTA Shenzhen Open
The 2017 Shenzhen Open (known as ''2017 Shenzhen Gemdale Open'' for sponsorship reason) was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the fifth edition of the Shenzhen Open, and part of the WTA International tournaments of the 2017 WTA Tour. It took place at the Shenzhen Longgang Sports Center in Shenzhen, China, from 1 to 7 January 2017. WTA International Tournaments
The WTA International Tournaments was a category for professional tennis tournaments of the Women's Tennis Association from the 2009 WTA Tour until 2020, which replaced the previous Tier III and Tier IV categories. The winner of a WTA International adds 280 points to her WTA ranking. For the 2020 season, there were 32 tournaments, all knock-out tournaments with a prize money for every event at $275,000 ($775,000 for Shenzhen, and $525,000 for Guangzhou and Hong Kong). Monica Niculescu
Monica Niculescu (born 25 September 1987) is a Romanian professional tennis player. She has been ranked by the Women's Tennis Association as high as 28 in singles and 11 in doubles. Niculescu has won several titles: three singles and ten doubles titles on the WTA Tour, one singles and one doubles title at WTA 125 tournaments, as well as 19 singles and 22 doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit. Maria Sakkari ( gr, Μαρία Σάκκαρη, ; born 25 July 1995) is a Greek professional tennis player. Anna-Lena Friedsam (born 1 February 1994) is a German tennis player. She has won three doubles titles on the WTA Tour, one WTA 125 singles title as well as 12 singles and three doubles titles on the ITF Circuit in her career. Liu Fangzhou (; ; born 12 December 1995) is a Chinese tennis player. On 24 April 2017, she reached her best singles ranking of world No. 127.
