2016–17 Football League (Greece)
The 2016–17 Football League was the second division of the Greek professional football system and the seventh season under the name Football League (Greece), Football League after previously being known as ''Beta Ethniki''. Its season began on 30 October 2016 and concluded on 11 June 2017. Teams * 1 Kalloni was expelled during the season * 2 Panthrakikos withdrew during the season Structure There are eighteen clubs that compete in the Football League, playing each other in a home and away series. At the end of the season, the bottom four teams are relegated to Gamma Ethniki. The top two teams gain automatic promotion for Super League Greece, Super League. All teams in the Football League take part in the Greek Football Cup. The Football League ( el, Φούτμπολ Λιγκ) was the second highest professional football league in Greece since its inception in 1962 as ''Beta Ethniki'' and until 2019. It then served as a third tier after the creation of the Super League 2 as the new second tier and it was eventually abolished in 2021 when the 2021–22 Super League 2 went from a 12 team to a 36 team league, absorbing most of the clubs from the Football League. The Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium () or Charilaou Ground (Γήπεδο Χαριλάου) is a football stadium in Thessaloniki, Greece. It was built in 1951 as the home stadium of Aris F.C. (Thessaloniki), one of the most popular football clubs in Greece. For many years, the ground's official name was ''Aris Stadium'', until it was renamed in honour of Kleanthis Vikelidis, a legendary player of Aris FC in the 1930s. However, most commonly referred to as "Charilaou Stadium", after the district in which it was built. Georgios Kamaras Stadium ( el, Στάδιο Γεώργιος Καμάρας) is a multi-purpose stadium in Athens, Greece. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Apollon Smyrnis. Aiginio (), known before 1926 as ''Libanovo'' (), is a town and a former municipality in Pieria regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pydna-Kolindros, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. Evosmos ( el, Εύοσμος, ''Évosmos''; before 1955: ''Neos Koukloutzas'' (Νέος Κουκλουτζάς, ''Néos Koukloutzás'')) is a suburb of the Thessaloniki Urban Area and was a former municipality in the regional unit of Thessaloniki, Greece. Acharnes ( el, Αχαρνές, , before 1915: Μενίδι Menidi, ) is a northwestern suburb of Athens, Attica, Greece. 2013–14 Football League (Greece)
The 2013–14 Football League is the second division of the Greek professional football system and the fourth season under the name Football League after previously being known as ''Beta Ethniki''. This is the first season after 1982–83 that the league has more than one groups. The groups are created based on geographical criteria. North Group In the north group, as well as in the south group, the bottom three teams are relegated. None of the teams will be promoted directly. The top four teams of each group will qualify to a playoff round, to determine the three teams which will be promoted to Super League.
