2016 Kerala Blasters FC Season
The 2016 season was the third season in Kerala Blasters FC's existence, as well as their third season in Indian Super League. After finishing second position in the league stage, the club managed to make it to the final. In the finals, they were again defeated by Atlético de Kolkata, this time through the penalty shoot-out. Background In 2016, in an effort to rebuild after failing to qualify for the finals the previous season, Kerala Blasters announced the signing of former Crystal Palace manager Steve Coppell as head coach on 21 June 2016. A week later, the club announced the signing of Northern Ireland international Aaron Hughes as their marquee player for the season. Other moves made before the season included the signing of Graham Stack, Kervens Belfort, Duckens Nazon, and Mohammed Rafique and return of former players Michael Chopra and Cédric Hengbart. Kerala Blasters Football Club (), commonly referred to as The Blasters, is an Indian professional football club based in Kochi, Kerala, that competes in the Indian Super League, the top tier of football in India. The club was established in May 2014 during the inaugural season of the Indian Super League. The club played their inaugural match on 13 October 2014, losing 1–0 to NorthEast United. The Blasters are the three time runners up of the Indian Super League. They first entered the final in 2014, where they lost 1–0 to  ATK after an injury time goal from them. Mohammed Rafique (footballer)
Mohammed Rafique (born 26 March 1991), is an Indian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Chennaiyin in the Indian Super League. Club career Prayag United After spending his youth years at Tollygunge Agragami, Rafique joined Prayag United in 2010 and would go on to play 6 senior games in his debut season, scoring once against Chirag United Kerala. Rafique played five games during the 2011-12 I-League season, his second at senior level for Prayag. Gurwinder Singh
Gurwinder Singh (born 16 April 1986) is an Indian footballer who plays as a defender. Career Gurwinder started his senior career with JCT in 2005 after passing out from their youth academy, where he spent a year. Gurwinder left JCT to join East Bengal in 2010. Gurwinder was loaned out to Kerala Blasters FC for the 2014 Indian Super League and was a regular for the Kerala-based team, making 11 appearances including the final match of the competition. Mehtab Hossain
Mehtab Hossain (born 5 September 1985) is an Indian professional footballer and coach who last played for Madan Maharaj as a defensive midfielder. During his career, Hossain has played for both of the Kolkata football giants, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. He played with East Bengal for ten seasons, winning the Federation Cup three times. Thongkosiem Haokip (born 13 March 1993), commonly known as Semboi, is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a forward. Ishfaq Ahmed (born 17 March 1983) is a former Indian footballer who currently works as the assistant coach of Kerala Blasters FC in Indian Super League. Vinit Rai Chamling (born 10 October 1997) is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Indian Super League club Mumbai City and the India national team. Mohammed Rafi (born 24 May 1982, Trikaripur, Kasargod) is an Indian former professional footballer who last played for Kerala Blasters as a striker in Indian Super League. Club Mohammed Rafi came through the ranks of SBT which had distinction of fielding not only all-Indian but also all-Malayali squad.
