2016 Galway Senior Hurling Championship
The 2016 Galway Senior Hurling Championship was the 119th staging of the Galway Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment in 1887. Sarsfields were the reigning champions. Abbeyknockmoy and Moycullen participated in the senior championship having been promoted from the intermediate competition in 2015. Fixtures and results Group stage The Senior A and Senior B Group stage draw was made on 8 March 2016 broadcast live on Galway Bay FM. Senior A Senior A consists of 12 teams divided into two groups of 6. The top 2 teams from each group will automatically qualify for the quarter finals. The 3rd and 4th teams from each group will play in preliminary quarter finals. Galway GAA
The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae na Gaillimhe) or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. Prior to amalgamation of the hurling and football county boards into one county board, each of the two codes were previously run by their separate boards in Galway, which was unusual for a dual county. Pádraig Pearse's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the Ballymacward- Gurteen parish in County Galway, Ireland. The club was founded in 1966, when the Gurteen and Ballymacward Junior Hurling clubs merged and was predominantly concerned with the game of hurling. There has always been a strong tradition of hurling in the parish, with one of the earliest recordings in local press dated to 1882. The first club in the parish was officially affiliated to the G.A.A. in 1886. Pádraig Pearse's GAA fields hurling teams from Under-6 to Senior level. St. Mary's, Athenry is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Athenry in County Galway, Ireland. In men's competitions, the club is a dual club competing in both Gaelic football and hurling at various age levels. The club also competes in camogie competitions, and has won several county, province and national titles in the sport. History Athenry GAA club was founded in 1885. Beagh GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located near Shanaglish in south County Galway, Republic of Ireland. The club is almost exclusively concerned with hurling. The club nor cup competes in Galway GAA competitions and fields two teams, Senior and Junior B. Tommy Larkin's Gaelic Athletic Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the Ballinakill and Woodford areas of County Galway, Ireland which competes in the Galway Senior Hurling Championship. History Tommy Larkin's Gaelic Athletic Club was founded in 1968 with the amalgamation of both the Woodford and Ballinakill GAA clubs. Soon after amalgamation adult hurling flourished with the senior team winning the county title in 1971. However despite the efforts of many tireless workers the club struggled to compete in the late seventies and eighties due in the most part to emigration.
