2016 European Amateur Team Championship
The 2016 European Amateur Team Championship took place 5–9 July at Golf de Chantilly, outside Paris, France. It was the 33rd men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The hosting club was founded in 1909. The Vineuil Course, situated in Chantilly, in the forest of the Hauts-de-France region of Northern France, 50 kilometres (30 miles) north of the center of Paris, close to the Château de Chantilly and Chantilly Racecourse, was originally designed by John Henry Taylor and later redesigned by Tom Simpson and Donald Steel. It had previously hosted eleven editions of the Open de France, the first in 1913 and the latest in 1990. The championship course was set up with par 71. Château De Chantilly
The Château de Chantilly () is a historic French château located in the town of Chantilly, Oise, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) north of Paris. The site comprises two attached buildings: the Petit Château built around 1560 for Anne de Montmorency and the Grand Château, which was destroyed during the French Revolution and rebuilt in the 1870s. It is owned by the Institut de France, which received it from Henri d'Orléans, Duke of Aumale. A historic monument since 1988, it is open to the public. John Axelsen
John Paul Pultz Pinnerup Axelsen (born 23 January 1998) is a Danish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. He was a member of the Danish team that won the Eisenhower Trophy in 2018. He has won four times on the Nordic Golf League as well as winning the Nordic Golf League Order of Merit in 2022. Amateur career Axelsen was born in Holbæk, Denmark and was introduced to golf by his father when he was 5. At a young age, Axelsen showed considerable talent, winning English boys under-13 (Reid Trophy) and medals at the European Boys under-16 championship (European Young Masters) in 2012, 2013 and 2014. In 2014, Axelsen was the first Danish boy to play in the Junior Ryder Cup, after winning the McGregor Trophy during which he set a new course record at Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club and also a new tournament record. Matthias Schwab
Matthias Schwab (born 9 December 1994) is an Austrian professional golfer who plays on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. Amateur career Schwab had a successful amateur career. He reached the final of the 2012 Amateur Championship, losing to Alan Dunbar by 1 hole. He attended Vanderbilt University from 2013 to 2017. While at Vanderbilt he was joint third in the individual competition in both the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships. Professional career Schwab turned professional in June 2017 and played on the Challenge Tour for the rest of the year, finishing 33rd in the Order of Merit. Match play is a scoring system for golf in which a player, or team, earns a point for each hole in which they have bested their opponents; as opposed to stroke play, in which the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. 1990 European Tour
The 1990 European Tour, titled as the 1990 Volvo Tour for sponsorship reasons, was the 19th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. The season was made up of 37 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and seven non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Wales' Ian Woosnam for the second time, having previously won in 1987. Changes for 1990 There were several changes from the previous season, with the addition of the Atlantic Open, the Amex Med Open and the Austrian Open; and the promotion of the Murphy's Cup to full Order of Merit status. Before the official schedule was announced the Tenerife Open was dropped, but later returned in place of the cancelled Catalan Open. Open De France
The Open de France is a European Tour golf tournament. Inaugurated in 1906 it is the oldest national open in Continental Europe and has been part of the European Tour's schedule since the tour's inception in 1972. The 100th edition of the event was held in 2016. The 2022 edition will take place between 22 and 25 September on the Golf National course. There will be €3 million of prize fund. Last edition played was the 2019 tournament, won by Nicolas Colsaerts. Originally played at La Boulie, the tournament has been hosted by many different venues, but since 1991, it has been held at the Le Golf National near Paris every year except for 1999 and 2001. Donald Steel
Donald Maclennan Arklay Steel (born 23 August 1937 in Hillingdon, Middlesex) is a former golfer and is a noted golf course designer, as well as being a writer and journalist. Educated at Fettes College and Christ's College, Cambridge, he has designed a large number of golf courses or modifications to existing courses, mostly in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Several late 20th century and early 21st century golf course architects worked under Steel in their early careers, among them Martin Ebert, Jonathan Gaunt, Tom Mackenzie. Steel has also written a number of books about golf. He was golf correspondent for the ''Sunday Telegraph'' from its launch in 1961 until 1989, and has written for '' Country Life'' since 1983.
