Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is an annual motorcycle speedway, speedway event held each year in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The last edition was in 2017. From 2018, the World Cup was replaced by the Speedway of Nations, which effectively brought back the pairs format. However, in 2023 the World Cup will return. Format The final tournament usually lasted for about a week with four meetings held in six or seven days. It started with two first round "events", each consisting of four national teams. The winners of these events qualified automatically for the final, while those who finished second and third competed in the race-off. Last place finishers were eliminated. Gino Manzares
Giovanni Manzares (born 15 August 1993) is a speedway rider from the United States. Career Manzares has won three medals at the AMA National Speedway Championship, silver in 2021 and two bronze in 2013 and 2019. In addition to this success he has won the 2013 AMA Speedway Long Track National Championship and 2012 AMA U21 US Speedway National Championship. He also reached the final of the 2014 Speedway Under-21 World Championship. Manzares began his British racing career riding for Ipswich Witches in the 2014 Premier League speedway season finishing with a 6.02 average. He also competed for Ipswich in 2015, finishing with a 5.43 average. He returned to British speedway in 2018 when he signed for the Scunthorpe Scorpions. In the 2021 North American final he crashed and suffered serious injuries which included two broken vertebrae, a collapsed lung and fractured hip and pelvis. Greg Hancock
Gregory Alan Hancock (born June 3, 1970 in Whittier, California) is an American former professional motorcycle speedway rider. As of 2023, he was one of only six riders to have won the individual World Championship four or more times. In addition to his four Speedway World Championships he won the Speedway World Team Cup with the USA speedway team on three occasions. Hancock appeared in all but one of the Grand Prix series, since its creation in 1995 until 2019. Career Hancock first came to the United Kingdom at the end of the 1988 speedway season to ride exhibition races with fellow 18-year-old Californian Billy Hamill. It was during this time that Hancock agreed a deal to ride for Cradley Heath the following year – the same team that his mentor Bruce Penhall used to ride for. Simon Stead
Simon Trevor Stead (born 25 April 1982) is a British speedway team manager and former rider. Career Summary Born in Sheffield, Stead started his career at local track Sheffield Tigers before riding for Buxton Hitmen, Peterborough Panthers and Workington Comets. Stead signed for Belle Vue Aces prior to the start of the 2005 season and had three seasons with the club. In those three seasons he progressed from a reserve to a heat leader. For the 2008 season Stead joined the Coventry Bees on loan. In 2009 he signed a contract which involved him moving from Coventry to the Swindon Robins. He re-signed with Sheffield Tigers in 2013 with the option of doubling up with King's Lynn Stars, his season was cut short by a broken leg sustained while practising in June, and signed for Sheffield Tigers again in 2014 doubling up with Leicester Lions. Christopher Calvin Harris (born 28 November 1982) from Truro, Cornwall, nicknamed ''Bomber'', is a Great Britain international speedway rider for the Leicester Lions and Glasgow Tigers in the United Kingdom. Career history Early career Harris began his racing career at the age of six and a half by competing in grasstrack events. His talent quickly became apparent when he began to win all of the junior age groups in the South-West area. In 1998, aged 15, he turned to speedway racing for the St. Austell Gulls at Amateur Conference League level. The Gulls won the Championship and the Knockout Cup. Tai Woffinden (born 10 August 1990) is a British motorcycle speedway, speedway rider. He is a three-time Speedway World Championship, World Champion (2013 Speedway Grand Prix, 2013, 2015 Speedway Grand Prix, 2015 and 2018 Speedway Grand Prix, 2018). Early life Woffinden was born in Scunthorpe, the son of former speedway rider Rob Woffinden. King's Lynn, known until 1537 as Bishop's Lynn and colloquially as Lynn, is a port and market town in the borough of King's Lynn and West Norfolk in the county of Norfolk, England.
