The 2014 Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic was held from October 10 to 13 at the Calgary Curling Club in Calgary, Alberta. The event was the first women's Grand Slam of the 2014–15 World Curling Tour. The event was a triple knockout format, and the purse for the event was CAD$50,000. Stephanie Marguerite Schmidt (born November 1, 1989 as Stephanie McVicar in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler, artist, and designer from Regina, Saskatchewan. She currently plays third on Team Nancy Martin. Design career Schmidt received a bachelor's degree in Design at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and a minor in Illustration, completed at Rhode Island School of Design 2013. In 2013, Schmidt would intern for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and assist in designing the 101st Grey Cup and the set of Sasktel's Rider Coaches Show. Jennifer Gates (born April 22, 1990) is a Canadian curler from Sudbury, Ontario. Gates is a two-time Canadian university champion and a two-time Northern Ontario provincial champion. Career Bantam and junior curling During her bantam and junior curling years, Gates played on Team Lilly (formerly Team Maloney) out of the Idylwylde Curling Club in Sudbury, Ontario. The team represented Northern Ontario at the 2004 Ontario Winter Games in London, Ontario. The team also represented Northern Ontario at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in 2009, 2010, and 2011, where Gates played second. Taylor Rae McDonald (born May 12, 1993) is a Canadian curler from Edmonton. She currently plays lead on Team Casey Scheidegger. McDonald previously played second for Team Laura Walker and Team Kelsey Rocque, with whom she won gold at the 2014 World Junior Curling Championships and the 2017 Winter Universiade. Career Juniors McDonald began her junior curling career in the 2011–12 season on Team Kelsey Rocque. In 2014, her team of Rocque, third Keely Brown, lead Claire Tully and coach Amanda-Dawn Coderre won the 2014 Alberta Junior Curling Championship with a 6–5 win over 2012 Canadian Junior champion Jocelyn Peterman in the final. Laura Walker (born November 19, 1990 as Laura Crocker) is a Canadian curler from Edmonton, Alberta. She is a two-time Canadian University champion, a national junior champion, world junior silver medallist and world mixed doubles bronze medallist. Walker is originally from Scarborough, Ontario. Career Juniors Walker began her junior curling career as a skip. In 2008, her Scarboro Golf & Country Club rink made it to the provincial junior championships where her team finished with a 2–5 record. Chelsea Danielle Carey (born September 12, 1984 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. She is the 2016 and 2019 Canadian and Alberta women's champion skip and 2014 Manitoba provincial women's champion skip. Career Earlier career Carey curled in six provincial junior championships, but did not win the event. Carly Howard (born October 7, 1993 in Midland, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Tiny, Ontario. She is the daughter of four-time World curling champion and four-time Brier champion Glenn Howard. Curling career After winning the 2010 Ontario Bantam Mixed Championship, Howard found much of her early success in university curling, winning her first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) title in 2014 for the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, defeating the Carleton Ravens team, skipped by Jamie Sinclair in the final. Julie Tippin (born August 16, 1983 in Pointe-Claire, Quebec as Julie Lynne Reddick) is a Canadian curler from Owen Sound, Ontario. Tippin is a three-time provincial junior champion, and a Canadian mixed champion. Career Tippin attended high school in Beaconsfield, Quebec where she was on her high school curling team. Tippin began her successful curling career by winning the 1999 Ontario provincial junior championships. At the 1999 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, Tippin skipped Ontario to an 8-4 record, just out of the playoffs. Tippin was still eligible for Bantams that year, and she won the 1999 Bantam Girls provincial championship as well. Tippin won another provincial junior championship in 2000 to qualify her for the 2000 Canadian Junior Curling Championships.
