2013 Asian Athletics Championships
The 2013 Asian Athletics Championships were the 20th edition of the biennial athletics competition between Asian nations. It was held at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune, India between 3–7 July. Around 522 athletes from 42 nations competed at the event. It was the first time since 1989 that India had hosted the championships. Prior to the competition, the election of the Asian Athletics Association president was convened in Pune. Qatar's Dahlan Jumaan al-Hamad (an IAAF vice-president) defeated the incumbent, Suresh Kalmadi of India, by a margin of 20 votes to 18. Dejene Regassa
Dejenee Regassa Mootumaa (born 18 April 1989) is formerly an Ethiopian-born long-distance runner who competed internationally for Bahrain. For a time, he was the reigning Asian champion in the 5000 metres. In his first major appearance outside of Ethiopia, he ran at the 2009 Frankfurt Marathon and finished 20th in a time of 2:15:30 hours. He transferred his eligibility to Bahrain at the end of 2009. He made his international debut at the 2010 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, coming 84th, and placed fourth in the 5000 metres at the 2010 Asian Games. He was much improved in the 2011 season. He reached 28th place at the 2011 World Cross Country then claimed the Asian 5000 m title at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships – Bahrain won all the long-distance races that year as a result. Yousef Ahmed Masrahi (Arabic:يوسف مسرحي) (born 31 December 1987, in Najran) is a Saudi Arabian track and field athlete, who specialises in the 400 metres sprint. His personal best time for the event is 43.93 seconds, set in 2015, and is the Asian record. Masrahi represented his country at the 2012 London Olympics and is a three-time participant at the World Championships in Athletics (2009, 2013, 2015). He was the gold medallist at both the Asian Athletics Championships in 2011 and at the 2014 Asian Games. He was banned for doping in 2016 for four years. Mutaz Essa Barshim ( ar, معتز عيسى برشم, Muʿtazz ʿĪsā Baršim; born 24 June 1991) is a Qatari track and field athlete who competes in the high jump and is the current Olympic Champion (2020). He is also the current World Champion and second best jumper of all-time with a personal best of 2.43. He won gold at the 2017 World Championships in London and at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. 400 Metres
The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. It has been featured in the athletics programme at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1964 for women. On a standard outdoor running track, it is one lap around the track. Runners start in staggered positions and race in separate lanes for the entire course. In many countries, athletes previously competed in the 440-yard dash (402.336 m)—which is a quarter of a mile and was referred to as the 'quarter-mile'—instead of the 400 m (437.445 yards), though this distance is now obsolete.
