2011 CrossFit Games
The 2011 CrossFit Games were a sporting event, the fifth CrossFit Games, held on July 29–31, 2011, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The winners of the Games were Rich Froning for the men's competition and Annie Thorisdottir for the women, who were both runners-up the previous year. CrossFit New England won the team competition. 2011 marked the first year of the "CrossFit Open" was used as the first part of the two-stage qualification process for the CrossFit Games. Online submissions of workout results were invited from competitors worldwide, and over 26,000 participated. Athletes were then selected to compete in the Regionals, and those who qualified then proceeded to the CrossFit Games. There were 10 events in the Games, including the first swim event which was held outside the main venue for the first time. Dignity Health Sports Park is a multi-use sports complex located on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson, California. The complex consists of the 27,000-seat Dignity Health Sports Park soccer stadium, the Dignity Health Sports Park tennis stadium, a track-and-field facility, and the VELO Sports Center velodrome. It is approximately south of downtown Los Angeles, and its primary tenant is the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLS). The main stadium is also home to the Los Angeles Wildcats of the XFL. Gord MacKinnon
Gordon "Gord" MacKinnon (born 27 August 1958, Glasgow, Scotland) is a former Rugby Canada flanker. Career MacKinnon played for the Pocomo Rugby Club of New Westminster when he won his first cap for Canada against the United States national rugby union team in 1985. During that same year he was a member of the British Columbia side that upset Scotland. A knee injury and subsequent surgery forced him out of the 1987 World Cup but he was back as a Canadian flanker against the Eagles in 1988 and went on to confirm his reputation as an outstanding athlete, fast and very strong. Ben Smith (CrossFit)
Ben Smith (born May 16, 1990) is a professional CrossFit athlete from Virginia, United States. He has competed at the CrossFit Games every year from 2009 to 2019, finishing on the podium four times: first place in 2015, second in 2016, and third in 2011 and 2013. He is the first competitor to make ten consecutive appearances in the Individual Division at the CrossFit Games. He was able to extend the streak to 11 years following the adjusted qualification rules for the 2019 CrossFit Games that gave him wildcard invitation. Julie Foucher
Julie Foucher (born December 26, 1988) is an American CrossFit athlete and medical resident. She has competed in the CrossFit Games four times, and has historically been one of the most successful women in the sport. Across her four Games appearances, Foucher has never finished outside the top 5. She has twice finished on the podium, earning 2nd in 2012 and 3rd in 2014. Foucher was a favourite in 2015, but was not able to compete after tearing her Achilles tendon during the season's second qualifying stage. Foucher works on the CrossFit Level 1 Seminar Staff, and graduated from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University in 2017.
