Ben Smith (CrossFit)
Ben Smith (born May 16, 1990) is a professional CrossFit athlete from Virginia, United States. He has competed at the CrossFit Games every year from 2009 to 2019, finishing on the podium four times: first place in 2015, second in 2016, and third in 2011 and 2013. He is the first competitor to make ten consecutive appearances in the Individual Division at the CrossFit Games. He was able to extend the streak to 11 years following the adjusted qualification rules for the 2019 CrossFit Games that gave him wildcard invitation. Smith was a baseball player throughout childhood and was introduced to CrossFit during his senior year of high school in 2008 and qualified for the CrossFit Games the next year. He has placed first in CrossFit Games regional qualifying events six times (five times in the Mid Atlantic region and once in the Atlantic "super-region"). 2012 CrossFit Games
The 2012 CrossFit Games were the sixth edition of the CrossFit Games, held on July 11–15, 2012, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, with some events taking place at Camp Pendleton. The men's competition was won by Rich Froning Jr., the women's by Annie Thorisdottir, and the Affiliate Cup by Hacks Pack UTE. Both Froning and Thorisdottir were repeat champions from the previous year. The number of participants increased to 69,000 for this year's Open. In this season, the special invites to previous champions were removed and they all had to qualify through the Regionals. At the Games, 15 events took place over four days, the most yet for a Games. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. 2020 CrossFit Games
The 2020 CrossFit Games was the 14th CrossFit Games held on October 23–25, 2020, at the CrossFit Ranch in Aromas, California, United States. Mathew Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey were again the respective winners of this year's men and women competitions The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 forced major changes to the Games season, including the postponement and relocation of the Games. The format was altered, and only 30 men and 30 women were invited to compete in an online-only first stage with the top five men and women qualifying for the final stage to compete in person. There were no teams, masters, or teens events. The Games returned to live broadcast on CBS Sports after the 2019 Games when only online streaming was available. 2017 CrossFit Games
The 2017 CrossFit Games are the eleventh CrossFit Games and were held on August 3–6, 2017, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. This was the first Games held outside the state of California. The men's competition was won by Mathew Fraser, the women's by Tia-Clair Toomey, and Wasatch CrossFit won the Affiliate Cup. Fraser won $310,000 for his efforts and Toomey won $298,000 for her title, including bonus for event wins. This was the first year the Masters 35–39 division was introduced. This was the first CrossFit Games in which a podium finisher in the Individual competition was disqualified for using illegal performance-enhancing substances when Ricky Garard tested positive after the Games were complete. 2014 CrossFit Games
The 2014 CrossFit Games were held on July 22–27, 2014 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, and were the eighth edition of the Games. The CrossFit Games are an annual competition to determine the "Fittest on Earth" and feature workouts designed using the CrossFit program. Rich Froning Jr. was the men's winner, while Camille Leblanc-Bazinet of Canada won the women's event, and CrossFit Invictus won the Affiliate Cup. This year's Games were tightly contested after Rich Froning Jr. who started well faltered in a few events. He finished strongly with three straight event wins in the final day to clinch a record fourth consecutive title. 2010 CrossFit Games
The 2010 CrossFit Games were the fourth CrossFit Games, held on July 16–18, 2010. This year's Games were the first to be staged at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California after three years at the ranch in Aromas. The men's competition was won by Graham Holmberg, the women's by Kristan Clever, and the Team by CrossFit Fort Vancouver. This year the qualification was expanded to a two-stage process with the introduction of Sectionals, a precursor to the online CrossFit Open introduced the following year. Individual athletes had to compete in local Sectionals to qualify for the Regionals. The 2016 CrossFit Games were the tenth CrossFit Games held on July 19–24, 2016 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California and on a ranch in Aromas, California, United States. The men's competition was won by Mathew Fraser, the women's by Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir, and the Affiliate Cup was awarded to CrossFit Mayhem Freedom. Over 324,000 from 175 countries participated in the Open this season. Mathew Edward Fraser (born 1990) is a retired Canadian-American professional CrossFit athlete, competing from 2014 to 2020. Fraser is the first athlete to have won five CrossFit Games titles, winning the 2016 CrossFit Games, 2016, 2017 CrossFit Games, 2017, 2018 CrossFit Games, 2018, 2019 CrossFit Games, 2019, and 2020 CrossFit Games consecutively. Jason Khalipa (born October 2, 1985 in San Jose, California) is an American former professional CrossFit Games athlete known for his accomplishments as the 2008 CrossFit Games champion.
