2011 Birthday Honours (New Zealand)
The 2011 Queen's Birthday Honours in New Zealand, celebrating the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, were appointments made by the Queen in her right as Queen of New Zealand, on the advice of the New Zealand government, to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by New Zealanders. Elizabeth II
Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Kerry Prendergast
Dame Kerry Leigh Prendergast (née Ferrier, born 28 March 1953) is a New Zealand politician who served as the 33rd Mayor of Wellington between 2001 and 2010, succeeding Mark Blumsky. She was the second woman to hold the position, after Fran Wilde. Early life Prendergast was born in Christchurch but grew up in Tawa, attending Tawa College (1966–69), where she was captain of the college netball team. She qualified as a registered nurse and then trained as a midwife and was later awarded the Royal New Zealand Plunket Society Long Service Award in 1991. She has also been a voluntary grief counsellor. She holds a MBA degree from Victoria University of Wellington. Chris Parkin
Christopher Wilton Parkin (born 1948) is a New Zealand businessman, art collector and philanthropist. Early life Parkin was born in Doncaster, England in 1948 and emigrated to New Zealand with his family in 1952. He grew up in Waikanae and Ōtaki and attended Otaki College, graduating in 1966. He studied geochemistry and business at Victoria University of Wellington, graduating with a Master's degree with Honours and a Bachelor of Commerce. Career Parkin bought his first property for $12,500 at age 23, while still a student. He sold it for $30,000 a few years later. After graduating from university Parkin found work with a manufacturing business. Two years later he moved to Development Finance Corporation as a financial analyst, and later convinced his employer to open an office in San Francisco. Rotorua
Rotorua () is a city in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's North Island. The city lies on the southern shores of Lake Rotorua, from which it takes its name. Margaret Phyllis Elsie Horsburgh (née Rickard; born 1943) is a New Zealand academic who established the school of nursing at the University of Auckland and worked as a nurse educator for over 30 years. Biography Horsburgh was born in Auckland in 1943, and was educated at Diocesan School for Girls. She began training as a nurse in 1961. From a career as an intensive-care nurse, Horsburgh joined Auckland University of Technology in 1976. She completed a Doctor of Education degree through Charles Sturt University in 1998, with a thesis titled ''Quality monitoring in higher education: a case study of the impact on student learning''. Chris Doig (opera Singer)
Christopher Keith Doig (4 April 1948 – 13 October 2011) was a New Zealand opera singer and sports administrator. In 1972 he won New Zealand's Mobil Song Quest and studied at the Vienna Music Academy before becoming principal tenor at the Vienna State Opera. After ten years in Austria, Doig returned to New Zealand, where he was appointed chief executive of New Zealand Cricket and was a member of the New Zealand Rugby Union board. In 1990, Doig was the artistic director of the New Zealand Festival of the Arts. He staged Wagner's ''Die meistersinger von Nürnberg'', starring Donald McIntyre.
