2010 European Athletics Championships
The 2010 European Athletics Championships were the 20th edition of the European Athletics Championships, organised under the supervision of the European Athletic Association. They were held at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain from 27 July to 1 August 2010. Barcelona was the first Spanish city to host the European Championships. Barni was the mascot of the event, he was the main promotional tool of the Championship. His name comes from Barna and was designed by the workshop Dortoka. Andrew Howe
Andrew Howe (born 12 May 1985) is an American-born Italian athlete who specializes in the long jump and sprinting. He won this event as well as the 200 metres at the 2004 World Junior Championships. He was successful at senior level at a young age, winning a long jump bronze at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships before becoming the European Champion later that year. In 2007 he became the European Indoor Champion and won the silver medal at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. A combination of injuries ruled him out for most of the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He returned to action in 2010 and became the Italian champion, representing his country at the 2010 European Athletics Championships. Louis Tsatoumas ( el, Λούης Τσάτουμας, born 12 February 1982) is a Greek long jumper. Biography He won his first major senior medal in 2007 at the European Indoor Athletics Championships, where he claimed the silver medal behind an Italian record-breaking Andrew Howe. On 2 June 2007 in Kalamata Tsatoumas jumped 8.66 metres, achieving a personal best and a Greek record for the event. The performance was the best in the world since Iván Pedroso leaped 8.70 m to win the gold medal at the 1995 World Championships. Tsatoumas ranks as the eighth best long jumper in history and holds the European record in the event at low altitude. At the 2008 Olympics he had the longest qualifying jump with 8.27 m, but after three consecutive fouls in the final he finished in last place. Eusebio Cáceres López (born 10 September 1991 in Onil) is a Spanish track and field athlete who specialises in the long jump. Career He began competing in a wide variety of events at the start of his junior career, including the decathlon. He won the long jump bronze medal at the 2008 World Junior Championships in Athletics. His first senior gold medal in the event soon followed at the 2009 European Team Championships, where he jumped a personal best of eight metres, and he also reached the semi-finals of the 100 metres at the 2009 European Athletics Junior Championships. He helped the Spanish 4×100 metres relay team to sixth in the event final in a national junior record time of 40.03 seconds.
