2009 World Badminton Championships
The 2009 BWF World Championships was the 17th tournament of the World Badminton Championships, a global tournament in the sport of badminton. It was held at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, from 10–16 August 2009. It was the first ever World Championships event to take place in India. Badminton England withdrew before the first round due to a perceived threat of terror against the team. They were later joined by two Austrian doubles players. Lin Dan won the men's singles event, thus becoming the only player in badminton history to have won three men's singles world championship titles having done so consecutively in 2006, 2007, and 2009. Lu Lan won the World Championship title in the women's singles event. Gachibowli Indoor Stadium
G. M. C. Balayogi Indoor Stadium is an indoor arena located in Hyderabad, India. It holds 5,000 people. It is located in the Gachibowli suburb. The stadium was built in 2002 headed by N. Chandrababu Naidu Government to host the 2003 Afro -Asian games. The indoor stadium is located beside the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, Hyderabad International Institute of Information Technology. The Sport venue, venue hosted the 2009 BWF World Championships. It is one of the home arenas for the India's prime basketball league, the UBA Pro Basketball League. Cai Yun (born 19 January 1980) is a former professional badminton player representing China. He is the 2012 London Olympic gold medallist and a four-time World Champion in men's doubles. He is regarded as one of the greatest men's doubles player of all time. Sport career Combining Cai Yun's impressive speed with his regular partner Fu Haifeng's impressive power, Cai and Fu have been one of the world's leading men's doubles teams since 2004. Jürgen Koch (born 8 January 1973) is an Austrian badminton player from Askö Traun badminton club. Career Koch competed in badminton at the 1992 Summer Olympics in men's singles. He lost in the second round to Wong Wai Lap, of Hong Kong, 17-18, 15-6, 15-3. Koch played the 2007 BWF World Championships in men's singles, and was defeated in the first round by Anup Sridhar, of India, 21-15, 21-19. Peter Zauner
Peter Zauner (born 30 May 1983) is a retired Austrian badminton player from ASKÖ Traun club who won National Championships for 13 times. Zauner became the National Junior Champion in 2001. Five further junior titles followed from 2003 to 2005. In 2005 he also won the adult category for the first time and won the Hungarian International and Slovak International. In 2006 he won the Austrian International, 2009 the Slovenian International and 2010 the Romanian International. Zauner ended his international career in 2014. Since 2018 he has been the sports coordinator of the Upper Austrian Badminton Association. In addition, he also studied Marketing Studies from Steyr in Austria. He and his partner Jürgen Koch dominated the Austrian badminton for nearly 25 years. Kamilla Rytter Juhl
Kamilla Rytter Juhl (born 23 November 1983) is a retired Danish badminton player. Juhl is an Olympic silver medalist, World Championship gold medalist and seven times European champion as well. Career Rytter Juhl played as a left-handed doubles specialist. Juhl enjoyed a successful mixed doubles career with Thomas Laybourn, winning the 2009 BWF World Championships and two European titles in 2006 and 2010. The pair also won the BWF World Superseries Finals in 2008, and won a total of two Superseries titles. Thomas Laybourn
Thomas Laybourn (born 30 September 1977) is a retired badminton player from Denmark. He is a World Champion, two times European Champion and was ranked as world number 1 in the mixed doubles in January 2011. Career Laybourn won the 2006 European Badminton Championships in the mixed doubles with partner Kamilla Rytter Juhl. He also competed at the 2006 IBF World Championships in mixed doubles (with Juhl), and were defeated in the quarterfinals by Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms 14–21, 17–21. Laybourn made his first appearance at the Olympic Games in 2008 Beijing in the mixed doubles event with Juhl.
