2009 Formula Le Mans Cup Season
The 2009 Formula Le Mans Cup season was the only season of the Formula Le Mans Cup, a support series for the Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. All competitors utilized the Oreca FLM09 spec prototype. The season featured ten races held over six events from 10 May to 20 September 2009. Nico Verdonck claimed the title ahead of Gavin Cronje, despite the drivers sharing a car all season. Verdonck benefitted from points awarded for pole positions and fastest laps, giving him a four-point advantage of Cronje. Their team, DAMS, also won the teams championship. Race calendar and results The Formula Le Mans Cup schedule consisted of several types of events. Four events, held in support for the Le Mans Series, featured two races of 60 minutes each. Formula Le Mans Cup
The Le Mans Prototype Challenge (shortened to LMP Challenge or LMPC) was a spec sports prototype formula created by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), organisers of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and sports car constructor Oreca. The formula is intended as part of a ladder system for young and upcoming drivers into the world of endurance racing while also serving as a value engineered entry for drivers and teams into Le Mans Prototypes due to limitations on manufacturers and suppliers. Initially launched as an independent racing series known as the Formula Le Mans Cup in 2009, the formula has since been expanded to allow participation in three separate series for 2010. Valle Mäkelä (born 2 February 1986, Laitila, Finland) is a Finnish motor racing driver. Career Mäkelä began his kart racing career at the age of five. In 2000 he became Finnish Champion in the ICA-J class. In 2002, he began racing in Formula Ford in both the UK and Nordics with some success. In 2003, he finished 3rd in the British Formula Ford Championship class, winning one race and securing a further seven podiums. Remaining with Nexa Racing, Mäkelä won the 2004 British Formula Ford title with 506 points scored over the season, including ten victories. Dominik Kraihamer (born 29 November 1989 in Oberndorf) is an Austrian racing driver, who competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship for ByKolles Racing Team. Career Kraihamer's racing career began in 2004 in karting, where he found success in the Rotax Max Challenge in his native Austria. In 2008 he was runner-up in the Rotax Max Euro Challenge DD2, and fourth in the grand finals. 2008 also saw the start of his car racing career, contesting the FIA GT3 European Championship in a Lamborghini Gallardo for S-Berg Racing. Thierry Marc Boutsen (born 13 July 1957) is a Belgian former racing driver who raced for the Arrows, Benetton, Williams, Ligier and Jordan teams in Formula One. He competed in 164 World Championship Grands Prix (163 starts), winning three races, achieving 15 podiums and scoring 132 career points.
