Nauru ( or ; na, Naoero), officially the Republic of Nauru ( na, Repubrikin Naoero) and formerly known as Pleasant Island, is an island country and microstate in Oceania, in the Central Pacific. Landon Deireragea (born 16 May 1960) is a Nauruan politician. Parliamentary role Deireragea has been elected to parliament in the 2008 general elections, gaining the seat of Cyril Buraman. He represents the Anetan Constituency in the Parliament of Nauru. Deireragea was defeated in the 2013 parliamentary elections, with Cyril Buraman taking the seat. Deputy Speaker After the June 2010 general elections Deireragea was elected Deputy Speaker of Parliament. In this role he deputizes for the Speaker of Parliament. Sprent Arumogo Dabwido (16 September 1972 – 8 May 2019) was a Nauruan politician who served as the President of Nauru between 2011 and 2013, and was also a weightlifter. The son of a parliamentarian, Dabwido was originally elected to the Meneng Constituency in the Parliament of Nauru at the 2004 elections. Having served as Minister for Telecommunications in Marcus Stephen's government from 2009, Dabwido joined the Nauruan opposition faction in November 2011 after Stephen's resignation, and, having passed a motion of no confidence against interim president Freddie Pitcher, was elected president four days later. In his role as president, Dabwido functioned as chairman of the Cabinet of Nauru, and held various portfolios in the Nauruan government. Vinson Franco Detenamo (born 1954 in Buada) is a Nauruan politician. Since the 1980s, Detenamo has been a member of the Parliament of Nauru for Buada. He served as the Minister of Interior and Finance. He served as Minister Assisting the President of Nauru in the cabinets of Kenas Aroi, Bernard Dowiyogo, Ruben Kun and Kinza Clodumar in 1989–1995, 1996 and 1996–1999. He was Minister of Finance under Bernard Dowiyogo from June 1994 to November 1995. Lyn Terangi Adam (born August 8, 1947) is a Nauruan politician. Political role Living at the Buada Lagoon, Adam was elected to the Parliament of Nauru for the Buada Constituency in the 2000 general elections. This was somewhat of a noted achievement, given that Adam thereby ousted former President of Nauru Ruben Kun from his Parliamentary seat. Roland Tullen Kun (born 6 May 1970) is a Nauruan politician and Member of Parliament. Political career MP and Minister Kun was elected in 2004 to serve as a Member of the Parliament of Nauru and served as Minister of Justice. Kun was elected to the seat of Buada in 2004, 2007, 2008, in the April and June 2010 elections, and in 2013. Kinza Godfrey Clodumar (8 February 1945 – 29 November 2021) was a Nauruan politician who served as President of Nauru from 1997 to 1998. Background Clodumar was born in Boe. He was a member of the indigenous population of Nauru, and he was concerned with environmental issues. He was a Member of Parliament for many years. Clodumar was the only Nauruan politician to have been elected to parliament in two different constituencies. He served his first two terms for the Aiwo Constituency when ousting Itubwa Amram in the 1971 elections; after being re-elected thrice Clodumar resigned his post in early 1979, but was re-elected in the 1983 elections. Baron Divavesi Waqa (; born 31 December 1959) is a Nauruan politician who was the 14th President of Nauru from 11 June 2013 until 27 August 2019. He previously served as Minister of Education from 2004 to 2007. Political role Waqa was elected in the May 2003 elections to the Parliament of Nauru, representing the constituency of Boe. Under President Ludwig Scotty, he served as Minister of the Interior and of Education; however, he had to leave the post upon Scotty's replacement by René Harris. He kept his seat in Parliament.
