2004 Edmonton Municipal Election
The 2004 Edmonton municipal election was held on October 18, 2004 to elect a mayor and twelve councillors to sit on Edmonton City Council, nine trustees to sit on the public school board, and seven trustees to sit on the separate school board. Voter turnout There were 212,105 ballots cast out of 507,577 eligible voters, for a voter turnout of 41.8%. Results (bold indicates elected, ''italics'' indicate incumbent) Mayor Councillors Twelve councillors, two elected in each of six wards, with voters having up to two votes each. Five women, seven men were elected as city councillors. Edmonton City Council
The Edmonton City Council is the governing body of the City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Edmonton currently has one mayor and twelve city councillors. Elections are held every four years. The most recent was held in 2021, and the next is in 2025. The mayor is elected across the whole city, through the First Past the Post plurality voting system. Councillors are elected one per ward, a division of the city, through the First Past the Post plurality voting system. On July 22, 2009, City Council voted to change the electoral system of six wards to a system of 12 wards; each represented by a single councillor. The changes took effect in the 2010 election. Jane Batty
Jane Batty (born 1946 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a former member of Edmonton City Council, last representing Ward 6. She was first elected in the 2001 Edmonton municipal election. She served on council to 2013. Prior to her first term on council, Batty served as both a management consultant and vice-president at Denny Andrew's Ford in Edmonton. Janice Sarich (April 26, 1958February 26, 2021) was a Canadian provincial-level politician. She served as member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (MLA) from 2008 until 2015, representing the electoral constituency of Edmonton-Decore and sitting as a Progressive Conservative. Gerry Gibeault
Gerry Gibeault (born 1953) is a Canadian former politician who was a school trustee with Edmonton Public Schools from 1995 to 2010 representing Ward I (Mill Woods). He also served as Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1986 to 1993 sitting with the New Democratic Party caucus in opposition. Tony Caterina (born March 28, 1956 in Montagano, Italy) is a Canadian businessman and politician who has served on the Edmonton City Council since 2007. He formerly represented Ward 7 from 2010-2021. Terry Cavanagh (politician)
Terence James Cavanagh ( ; July 19, 1926 – December 17, 2017) was a Canadian politician, municipal councillor in Edmonton, Alberta, who served as mayor. He was Edmonton's first native-born mayor. Early life Cavanagh was born in Edmonton on July 19, 1926, to recent Scottish immigrants. He attended high school in Edmonton before moving to Galt, Ontario to play hockey for the Galt Red Wings of the Ontario Hockey Association, where he was a teammate of Gordie Howe. Mike Nickel (born April 27, 1965) is a Canadian politician who served as an Edmonton city councillor from 2004 to 2007, and then again from 2013 to 2021. Linda Sloan
Linda Sloan (born June 27, 1960) is a Canadian politician and municipal councillor in Edmonton, Alberta. Sloan graduated from the Foothills Hospital School of Nursing in 1982 and began work as a registered nurse. She soon became involved in the Staff Nurses Associations of Alberta (which she led from 1992 until 1997), the National Federation of Nurses Unions, and the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses.
