Kaohsiung Cultural Center
The Kaohsiung Cultural Center () is a cultural center located in Lingya District of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It was founded by the city government in 1981. The main building of the center is a complex of two concert halls, many galleries, and a library. The office of Kaohsiung Bureau of Cultural Affairs is also located in Kaohsiung Cultural Center. History The cultural center was originally built as a memorial hall for Chiang Kai-shek; its former name was Kaohsiung Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center (高雄市立中正文化中心). The memorial function was abolished by the city government in 2007, and the name was then changed to the current name. Structure The main building is 13,884 m2, the main audience hall located in the center called Jhihde Hall (至德堂) seats an audience of 1672. This hall is the cultural center for Kaohsiung city. Sun Yueh
Sun Yueh (; 26 October 1930 – 1 May 2018) was a Taiwanese actor. Born in Yuyao, Zhejiang on 26 October 1930, he moved to Taiwan in 1949. Sun appeared in his first film in 1962, and retired in 1989. Over the course of his career, he received the Golden Horse Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1968, and the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actor in 1983. Sun stopped smoking after his baptism as a Christian in 1981, and in later life became a humanitarian known for his work with the John Tung Foundation. He cautioned youth against the use of tobacco, and drew attention to ailments related to smoking, namely chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In 2010, Sun received a Golden Horse Award for special contributions. Sun underwent treatment for gallstones and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at National Taiwan University Hospital in March 2018, and died of sepsis and multiple organ failure on 1 May 2018 at the age of 87. Tien Niu
Tien Niu (; born 23 January 1958) is a Taiwanese actresses. Tien's birth name is Chu Kai-li. She won the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actress at the 15th Golden Horse Awards in 1978, and was shortlisted for the same prize during the 19th Golden Horse Awards in 1982. In 1980, she served as a Golden Horse Award presenter, then co-hosted the awards alongside Sun Yueh in 1983. ''Growing Up'' () is a 1983 film by Taiwanese filmmaker Chen Kunhou. The screenplay was the first collaboration between Hou Hsiao-hsien and Chu T’ien-wen. The film made the young star, Doze Niu, "a pop icon and tagged him with a rebellious image." ''Growing Up'' was the film that "first attracted broad critical and popular attention to the movement" known as New Taiwan Cinema. It "established some of the movement's key stylistic approaches and narrative concerns, with its subdued manner in relating the story of an adolescent boy grappling with everyday pangs amid Taiwan's fraught provincial context." Taiwan Television Enterprise, Ltd. (), commonly known as TTV and formerly known as Central Television and Voice of Taiwan, is the first terrestrial television station in the Republic of China (Taiwan).
