2024 Veikkausliiga
The 2024 Veikkausliiga is the 94th season of top-tier football in Finland, which takes place from April to November. Veikkaus was the league's sponsor. Teams The league consisted of twelve teams; ten teams remaining from the previous season, and two teams promoted from the Ykkönen. HJK entered the season as defending champions. EIF were promoted as champions of the 2023 Ykkönen (returning to the top flight after a 90-year absence), replacing the bottom-placed 2023 Veikkausliiga team ( KTP, relegated after a single-year stint in top flight). Ykkönen runners-up Gnistan were also promoted (marking their debut in the top flight) after fifth-placed Veikkausliiga team Honka were demoted due to bankruptcy, replacing them in the league. Lauri Sahimaa (born 9 March 2005) is a Finnish professional football player who plays as a midfielder for Veikkausliiga side KuPS. Club career Sahimaa started playing football in Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) organisation. He was named the Best Player of the Season of the KuPS reserve team in 2022. For the 2023 season, he was loaned out to Mikkelin Palloilijat (MP) in second-tier Ykkönen. Matias Siltanen (born 29 March 2007) is a Finnish professional football player who plays as a midfielder for Veikkausliiga club KuPS, and captains the Finland U17 national team. Club career Born in Kuopio, Siltanen started to play football in a youth team of the local club KuPS. He made his senior debut in 2022 at the age of 15, with the club's reserve team KuPS II playing in the third tier league Kakkonen. On 12 January 2023, Siltanen signed his first professional contract with the club, on a two-year deal with an option for an additional year. Axel Vidjeskog
Axel Vidjeskog (born 14 April 2001) is a Finnish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for KuPS in the Veikkausliiga. Club career Vidjeskog began to play football in the youth program of FF Jaro. He started his senior career in 2017, playing for Jaro first team in the second-tier Ykkönen, and for the reserve team Jakobstads BK in the third-tier Kakkonen. Clinton Antwi (born 6 November 1999) is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a defender for Veikkausliiga club KuPS. Career Nordsjælland Antwi played for the Right to Dream Academy before joining FC Nordsjælland in January 2018. He spent his first half season in spring 2018 in the U19 team in the U19 league. Seth Saarinen (born 5 May 2001) is a Finnish footballer who plays as a right-back for Veikkausliiga side KuPS. Club career Saarinen spent his youth years in HJK youth sector, before he transferred to FC Zürich in 2017, for a €100,000 transfer fee. Samuli Rasmus Miettinen (born 16 June 2004) is a Finnish professional football player who plays as a centre back for Veikkausliiga side KuPS. Club career Miettinen played in the youth sector of Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS). He debuted in Veikkausliiga with KuPS first team in the 2022 season. Jaakko Tapio Oksanen (born 7 November 2000) is a Finnish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for KuPS. Oksanen is a product of the HJK Helsinki academy in his native Finland. Following years in England with Brentford, he returned to Finland to join KuPS in 2022. Oksanen is a current Finland international.
