The 2023–24 I-League is the 17th season of the I-League and the second season as the second tier of Indian football league system. Changes from last season Teams ;Promoted to Indian Super League *RoundGlass Punjab ;Promoted to I-League *Delhi FC * Shillong Lajong ;Relegated to I-League 2 * Mumbai Kenkre * Sudeva Delhi ;Corporate entries The AIFF accepted five bids for direct entry to I-League. * Inter Kashi *Namdhari Bunkerhill Pvt Ltd (Ambala) withdrew its bid after inking a majority shareholding in Mohammedan. Nimida United Sports Development Pvt Ltd ( Bengaluru United) and Concatenate Advest Advisory Pvt Ltd (Delhi) were unable to fulfill the bid conditions. Inter Kashi, from a tier-2 city (Varanasi), will have relegation immunity for two seasons; while Namdhari FC, from a tier-3 city ( Bhaini Ala), will be free from relegation for one season. I-League
The I-League (known as Hero I-League for sponsorship ties with Hero MotoCorp) is the second-tier men's professional football competition of the Indian football league system. It is currently contested by 12 clubs across the country with the winners getting promotion to play in the premier division, the Indian Super League. The competition was founded in 2007 as the successor to the National Football League, with the first season starting in November 2007. The league was launched as India's first ever top-tier professional football league with the aim to increase the player pool for the India national team. I-League operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the I-League 2 and at first only promotion system with the Indian Super League, from the 2022–23 season. Shillong Lajong FC (founded as Lajong SC) is an Indian professional football club based in Shillong, Meghalaya, that competes in the Shillong Premier League. The club was established in 1983 with the prime objective of improving the declining standard of football in the state, and to spot, train and nurture local talent. Churchill Brothers FC Goa, or simply known as Churchill Brothers, is an Indian professional football club based in Margao, Goa, that competes in the I-League, alongside Goa Professional League. Aizawl FC is an Indian professional football club based in Aizawl, Mizoram, that competes in the I-League. Incorporated in 1984, the club earned the entry in India's top-tier league in 2015–16, after winning 2015 I-League 2nd Division. 2022–23 I-League 2
2022–23 Hero I-League 2 was the 15th season of the I-League 2 since its establishment in 2008. This was the first season of I-League 2 since rebranding as the third tier of Indian football league system. The league's group stage has been played from March to May 2023, parallel to the remaining part of both I-League and Indian Super League seasons. The top two teams on the league table, Delhi FC and Shillong Lajong, secured a place in the 2023–24 I-League season. On 27 September 2022, the league committee meeting presided by Lalnghinglova Hmar was held. It was initially decided that 15 teams would participate in the upcoming season, including the reserve sides of ISL teams. The final phase of the league will be played on a home-and-away basis. Bhaini Ala
Sri Bhaini Sahib is a village located in the Ludhiana East tehsil, of Ludhiana district, Punjab. It was previously known as Bhaini Bhoondar and Bhaini Ala. Earlier, it was also referred to as Bhaini Kookean and Ramdaspura. Sri Bhaini Sahib is an important historic place of Punjab, being the focal point of Namdhari sect, founded by Sat Guru Ram Singh. Namdhari Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Bhaini Sahib, Punjab. Part of the multi-sports Namdhari Sports Academy, it competes in the Punjab State Super League.
