2023 Albanian Local Elections
Local elections were held on 14 May 2023 in Albania. Mayors and municipal council seats were being elected in each of Albania's 61 municipalities. Background The 2019 Albanian local elections were boycotted, leading to the Socialists running uncontested in 31 municipalities. Only Shkodër and Finiq were won by opposition candidates, with all other mayors being candidates of the Socialist Party. According to official figures, turnout in 2019 was 22.97% or 812,249 people. The opposition stated that, according to their calculations, only 534,528 people took part, which means that the turnout was 15.12%. The elections were declared as a "farce" by opposition leader Lulzim Basha at the time. Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta officially met on 26 October 2022 to plan for the upcoming elections. Vlorë
Vlorë ( , ; sq-definite, Vlora) is the third most populous city of the Republic of Albania and seat of Vlorë County and Vlorë Municipality. Located in southwestern Albania, Vlorë sprawls on the Bay of Vlorë and is surrounded by the foothills of the Ceraunian Mountains along the Albanian Adriatic and Ionian Sea Coasts. Rrogozhinë
Rrogozhinë ( sq-definite, Rrogozhina) is a town and a municipality in Tirana County, centrally located in the Western Lowlands region of Albania. It was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Gosë, Kryevidh, Lekaj, Rrogozhinë and Sinaballaj, that became municipal units. The seat of the municipality is the town Rrogozhinë. The total population is 22,148 (2011 census), in a total area of 223.73 km2. Lushnjë
Lushnjë (; in Lushnje's own dialect: ''Lushnje'' ; sq-definite, Lushnja) is a city and municipality in west-central Albania. It is located in the County of Fier. Vorë ( sq-definite, Vora) is a municipality in Tirana County, central Albania. It was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Bërxullë, Prezë and Vorë, that became municipal units. The seat of the municipality is the town Vorë. The total population is 25,511 (2011 census), in a total area of 82.76 km2. The population of the former municipality at the 2011 census was 10,901. Demochristian Party Of Albania
The Demochristian Party of Albania ( sq, Partia Demokristiane e Shqipërisë, PDK) is a small Christian democratic political party in Albania. History The PDK's first election was in 1996, where it won no seats in the 140 seat Parliament but took 1.3% of the popular vote. In the following year, 1997, it won a single Assembly seat while taking 1% of the vote. Four years later, in 2001, the PDK again took 1% of the vote but failed to win an Assembly seat. Freedom Party Of Albania
The Freedom Party ( sq, Partia e Lirisë, PL), formerly known as the Socialist Movement for Integration (, LSI), is a social democratic political party in Albania. The party was formed on 6 September 2004, when Ilir Meta defected from the Socialist Party of Albania (PS). A proposal to change its logo, name and other symbols was unanimously approved at the party's National Convention (Congress) on 25 July 2022. Through the use of the term "movement", the party attempted to give the message that it is open and inclusive. SHISH
The State Intelligence Service ( sq, Shërbimi Informativ Shtetëror), commonly known by its acronym SHISH, is the primary intelligence agency of Albania. It was preceded by SHIK. After the Declaration of Independence As it is stated literally in article 6 of the decree of the government of Ismail Qemali: "To organize a secret service for occupied areas (vendet e shkeluna) of Albania". Charles McGonigal (born June 23, 1968) is a former American Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent in charge of counterintelligence in the FBI's New York City field office.
