2022–23 Virginia Cavaliers Women's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 Virginia Cavaliers women's basketball team represented the University of Virginia during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Cavaliers were led by first-year head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton, and played their home games at John Paul Jones Arena as members the Atlantic Coast Conference. After firing Tina Thompson after the previous season, Virginia announced that Amaka Agugua-Hamilton would be the new head coach of the program. The Cavaliers finished the season 15–15 and 4–14 in ACC play to finish in a tie for thirteenth place. As the thirteenth seed in the ACC tournament they lost their First round matchup with Wake Forest. They were not invited to the NCAA tournament and declined an invitation to the WNIT. Amaka Agugua-Hamilton
Amaka Agugua-Hamilton (born April 13, 1983) is the current head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers women's basketball team. Hofstra statistics Source Missouri State Amaka Agugua-Hamilton was introduced as the head coach of the Missouri State Lady Bears basketball program on April 17, 2019. Agugua-Hamilton replaced Kellie Harper who left to become the head coach of her alma mater, the Tennessee Lady Vols. Agugua-Hamilton became the first African- American female head coach for any sport at Missouri State. 2022 Women's National Invitation Tournament
The 2022 Women's National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 64 NCAA Division I Women's college basketball teams that were not selected for the field of the 2022 Women's NCAA tournament. The tournament committee announced the 64-team field on March 13, following the selection of the NCAA Tournament field. The tournament started March 16 and ended on April 2 with the championship game televised by CBSSN. The tournament was won by the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Participants The 2022 Postseason WNIT field consists of 32 teams that receive automatic berths – one berth from each conference – and 32 at-large teams. Upper Marlboro, officially the Town of Upper Marlboro, is the seat of Prince George's County, Maryland. Etymology Upper Marlboro was established in 1706 as "Marlborough Town", after John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough. In 1744, the town was renamed to "Upper Marlborough".
