2022–23 Iraq Division One
The 2022–23 Iraq Division One is the 49th season of the Iraq Division One, the second tier of the Iraqi football league system since its establishment in 1974. The number of clubs in the league have varied throughout history for various reasons. The top two teams are promoted to the Iraqi Premier League, while the bottom 3 teams in each group are directly relegated to the Iraq Division Two. Overview Changes In November 2020, The Iraq FA announced that the number of teams will decrease from 28 to 24 in total starting from 2021-2022 season. To make these changes possible, the Iraq FA announced that in 2022–23 season, a two teams are promoted to the Premier League, where the winner and runner-up of each group will play a play-off match, so that the winners will be promoted directly to the Premier League, while 6 teams in total are directly relegated to Division Two. Iraq Division One
The Iraq Division One is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. It is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Division One are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The four lowest-finishing teams in the Division One are relegated to Division Two. The number of clubs in the league have changed throughout history, most recently in the 2021–22 season when the number of clubs decreased from 28 to 24. Al Ramadi Sport Club ( ar, نادي الرمادي), is an Iraqi football club based in Ramadi, in Anbar province, that plays in Iraq Division one. History Al-Ramadi Club played in the Iraqi Premier League. In the 1995–96 season they won the Al-Nasr wal-Salam Cup, beating Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya 1–0 with a goal by Zuhair Abdul-Ridha, beating Al-Shorta 5–4 on penalties and then beating Al-Naft 3–0 in the final. Amanat Baghdad Sport Club ( ar, نادي أمانة بغداد الرياضي, lit=Mayoralty of Baghdad) is a football team based in Karkh District, Baghdad, Iraq, that competes in the Iraq Division One, the second tier of Iraqi football. Al-Sinaat Al-Kahrabaiya Sport Club ( ar, نادي الصناعات الكهربائية الرياضي, lit=''Electrical Industries SC''), is an Iraqi football team based in Baghdad, that plays in the second tier Iraq Division One. History Al-Sinaat Al-Kahrabaiya Sport Club was founded on 1 August 2009 by Ministry of Industry and Minerals, and was officially registered in the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2011. Only six years later they qualified to play in the Iraqi Premier League after winning the 2016–17 Iraq Division One as a runner-up under the leadership of coach Kadhim Yousif. Al-Hussein SC (Baghdad)
Al-Hussein ( ar, نادي الحسين), is an Iraqi football club based in Baghdad. They were crowned champions of the 2015–16 Iraq Division One which promoted them to the Iraqi Premier League for the first time in their history. History Al-Hussein, named after the Imam of Shia Husayn ibn Ali, were founded in 1999 during the reign of Saddam Hussein. Their first participation in the Iraq FA Cup was in the 2002–03 edition when they were in the third division of Iraqi football; they faced Al-Tharthar in Round 1 on September 2, 2002 and the game ended 0–0 with Al-Hussein being knocked out of the competition via penalty shootout. Al-Difaa Al-Madani Sport Club ( ar, نادي الدفاع المدني الرياضي, lit=''Civil Defense SC''), is an Iraqi football team based in Al-Shaab, Baghdad, that plays in the Iraq Division One and Iraq FA Cup. History Al-Difaa Al-Madani Sport Club was founded in 2005 by Ministry of Defence.
