2022 Singapore Sevens
The 2022 Singapore Sevens was a rugby sevens tournament played on 9–10 April 2022 at the National Stadium in Singapore. It was the ninth edition of the Singapore Sevens and the fifth tournament of the 2021–22 World Rugby Sevens Series. This was the first event in the series for which no invited teams featured in tournament, and all core teams were available. In the cup final, it was Fiji who took out their record third Singapore title after they defeated New Zealand by 28–17. Australia narrowly defeated Ireland by 21–19 to finish in third place. The defending tournament champions from 2019, South Africa, finished in equal-seventh place, and also lost their thirty-six match win streak in the pool stage against the United States by 7–12. 2021–22 World Rugby Sevens Series
The 2021–22 World Rugby Sevens Series was the 23rd annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national men's rugby sevens teams. The Sevens Series has been run by World Rugby since 1999. The series was won by , claiming their first World Series title. Second-placed South Africa opened the competition by winning the first four tournaments, with a 36 match winning streak that lasted until the 2022 Singapore Sevens where they were beaten by the United States in pool play, but they did not make the semifinals in any of the remaining events. There was no relegation required at the end of the season as the number of core teams was reduced when England, Scotland and Wales were combined to play as Great Britain for the 2022–23 series. Argentina National Rugby Sevens Team
The Argentina national rugby sevens team competes in the World Rugby Sevens Series, in the Rugby World Cup Sevens, and, beginning in 2016, in the Summer Olympics. The Argentine rugby sevens team has had some success in the World Rugby Sevens Series, finishing third in 2003-04, and finishing among the top six teams in five out of six seasons from 2003-04 to 2008-09. Argentina won the USA Sevens tournament in 2004 and again in 2009. During its peak, the Argentine team was led by Santiago Gómez Cora, who is ranked all-time first in tries (230), fifth in points (1,178), and third in appearances (61). Born in Hong Kong, he represents United States at international level after qualifying on residency grounds. Folau Niua (born January 27, 1985) is an American rugby union former player. He played fly-half for the United States national rugby sevens team from 2011 to 2022, and holds the U.S. record for most tournament appearances with over 65 caps. Early career Folau Niua is from East Palo Alto in California, and attended high school at Woodside High. Niua previously played his club rugby with the East Palo Alto Razorbacks, where he helped the club win the 2009 Division II national championship. Kevon Williams (born June 7, 1991) is an American rugby player who plays for the United States national rugby sevens team on the World Rugby Sevens Series. Williams is originally from Houston, Texas. He attended Westbury High School and college at the New Mexico Highlands. He also played American football as a wide receiver with the New Mexico Highlands until 2012. He picked up rugby in 2013. His strong rugby play with New Mexico earned him the 2014 College Sevens Player of the Year award by Rugby Today magazine, in large part due to his play at the 2014 NSCRO national championship. With over 230 tries, Baker currently ranks first among Americans and third among all players in career tries scored in the World Series. Baker has established himself as one of the best rugby sevens players in the world. The Samoa national rugby sevens team, referred to as Samoa Sevens or Manu Samoa 7s, competes in the annual World Rugby Sevens Series. 2020 Canada Sevens
The 2020 Canada Sevens was a rugby sevens tournament held at BC Place in Vancouver on 7–8 March 2020. The tournament was the seventh event of the 2019–20 Sevens World Series for men's teams, and the fifth edition of the Canada Sevens. Format The sixteen are drawn into four pools of four teams. Each team plays every other team in their pool once. The top two teams from each pool advance to the Cup playoffs and compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. The other teams from each pool go to the classification playoffs for ninth to sixteenth placings. Teams Fifteen core teams played in the tournament along with one invitational team, Japan.
