2020 Canada Sevens
The 2020 Canada Sevens was a rugby sevens tournament held at BC Place in Vancouver on 7–8 March 2020. The tournament was the seventh event of the 2019–20 Sevens World Series for men's teams, and the fifth edition of the Canada Sevens. Format The sixteen are drawn into four pools of four teams. Each team plays every other team in their pool once. The top two teams from each pool advance to the Cup playoffs and compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. The other teams from each pool go to the classification playoffs for ninth to sixteenth placings. Teams Fifteen core teams played in the tournament along with one invitational team, Japan. 2019–20 World Rugby Sevens Series
The 2019–20 World Rugby Sevens Series was the 21st annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national men's rugby sevens teams. The Sevens Series has been run by World Rugby since 1999–2000. In March 2020, World Rugby postponed all remaining tournaments in the series due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The events in London and Paris were postponed provisionally until September, preceding the Singapore and Hong Kong events previously postponed until October. On 30 June, the remaining four rounds of the series was cancelled which meant that New Zealand was awarded the title by 11 points over second place South Africa. Format Sixteen nations competed at each event, drawn into four pools of four teams. Hillegard Muller du Plessis (born 25 June 1999) is a South African rugby union player for the in United Rugby Championship and the Currie Cup. He is former rugby sevens player for the South Africa Sevens team. Having won two World Rugby Sevens Series titles, as well as a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Marcos Moneta (born 7 March 2000) is an Argentine rugby sevens player. He made his debut appearance at the Olympics representing Argentina at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Moneta received World Rugby's Men’s Sevens Player of the Year award for 2021. Career Moneta represented Argentina at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics and was part of the Argentine team which defeated France 24-14 in the final to claim the gold medal in the boys rugby sevens tournament. Selvyn Davids (born 26 March 1994 in Jeffreys Bay) is a South African rugby union player for the South African Sevens team. His regular position is centre or winger. Youth Davids played for the Nico Malan High School first team between 2010 and 2013. In the 2013 season, he scored 408 points during the season. Alexander "Alex" Davis (born 3 October 1992) is an English rugby union player. He has represented the England national rugby sevens team.
