2022 San Diego Open
The 2022 San Diego Open was a combined men's and women's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 2nd edition of the event for the men and the 1st edition of the Southern California Open for the women since 2015. The event is part of the ATP Tour 250 series of the 2022 ATP Tour and a WTA 500 event on the 2022 WTA Tour. It was held at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, United States, from September 19 through September 25, 2022 for the men, and from October 10 through October 16, 2022 for the women. The event was primarily organized being held on a second consecutive year in the alternative sporting calendar due to the cancellation of tournaments in China during the 2022 season because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the WTA's suspension of tournaments in China following former WTA player Peng Shuai's allegation of sexual assault against a Chinese government official. ATP Tour 250
The ATP 250 tournaments (previously known as the ''ATP World Tour 250'' tournaments, ''ATP International Series'', and ''ATP World Series'') are the lowest tier of annual men's tennis tournaments on the main ATP Tour, after the four Grand Slam tournaments, ATP Finals, ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, and ATP 500 tournaments. As of 2020, the series includes 39 tournaments, with 250 ranking points awarded to each singles champion—which accounts for the name of the series. James Duckworth (born 21 January 1992) is an Australian professional tennis player. He has a career-high Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) singles ranking of World No. 47 achieved on 8 November 2021 and No. 185 in doubles achieved on 10 February 2020.
