Local elections took place in Makati on Monday, May 9, 2022, as a part of the 2022 Philippine general election. Voters will elect candidates for Mayor, Vice Mayor, two representatives, and the sixteen councilors, eight per district, that would be members of the City Council. Romulo "Kid" Valderama Peña Jr. (born August 5, 1969) is a Filipino politician and the current Representative of the 1st District of Makati in the Philippine House of Representatives. He previously served as acting Makati Mayor from 2015 to 2016 after the office of Ombudsman of the Philippines dismissed Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay, Jr. over contract irregularities related to the construction of Makati Science High School. 2022 Philippine Local Elections
Local elections in the Philippines took place on May 9, 2022. These were conducted together with the 2022 general election for national positions. All elected positions above the barangay (village) level but below the regional level were disputed. The following 18,180 positions will be disputed: * 81 provincial governorships and vice-governorships * 782 Provincial Board (Sangguniang Panlalawigan) members * 1,634 mayorships and vice-mayorships * 13,558 city and municipal councilors (Sangguniang Panlungsod and Sangguniang Bayan) The elective positions in the Bangsamoro was originally scheduled to be held with these elections, but was postponed to 2025, concurrently with the 2025 elections. The city is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress of the Philippines through its first and second districts. The 2022 Philippine general election took place on May 9, 2022, for executive and legislative branches of the government – national, provincial, and local, except for the barangay officials. At the top of the ballot is the election for successors to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo.
