2022 Jabalia Fire
On 17 November 2022, a fire at a residential building killed 21 people in the Jabalia Refugee Camp in the Gaza Strip. Most of the victims were from the Abu Raya family who were celebrating the return of a family member who had come back from abroad. Israeli media reported that seven children had died while the BBC reported ten. The fire is believed to have come from large amounts of gasoline somebody had stored inside the building to use a generator. The candles appear to have ignited the gasoline, triggering the blaze. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas ordered a national day of mourning to be held in honour of the victims. The PLO's secretary-general, Hussein al-Sheikh, asked for Israel to open the Erez Crossing in order to let wounded Palestinians seek treatment (the crossing is normally closed because Israel is at war with the militant Islamist Hamas movement which controls the Gaza Strip). Militant
The English word ''militant'' is both an adjective and a noun, and it is generally used to mean vigorously active, combative and/or aggressive, especially in support of a cause, as in "militant reformers". It comes from the 15th century Latin "''warrior''" meaning "to serve as a soldier". 2022 West Bank Bus Crash
On 6 January 2022, a traffic collision between a truck and minibus killed eight people and injured two others in the West Bank. 2021 Jabalia Accident
On 10 May 2021, during the 2021 Israel–Palestine crisis, a rocket fired by Hamas towards Israel misfired and fell inside the Gaza Strip city of Jabalia, killing seven people. Hamas authorities said that they had launched the rocket around 6 pm from the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City. According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), the rocket had accidentally hit a shop on Martyr Salah Dardona Street near the Al-Omari mosque. September 23, 2005 Jabalia Camp Incident
The September 23, 2005 Jabalia Camp incident happened when Hamas was holding a rally or a parade in the Jabalia refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, following the Israeli disengagement from Gaza. At least 19 Palestinians, both militants and civilians, were killed in what was described as an explosion or a series of explosions. At least two children were among the dead. Additionally, over 80 Palestinians were injured. The origin of these explosions was disputed. Hamas described the incident as an Israeli airstrike. A Hamas spokesperson said, "I saw the missiles with my two own eyes and thousands of people saw these missiles coming". However, Israel denied having anything to do with the blast.
