2022 Georgian Cup
The 2022 Georgian Cup was a single knock-out football tournament, organized by Georgian Football Federation. The winner qualified for the first round of the 2023-24 UEFA Europa Conference League season. FC Saburtalo Tbilisi, Saburtalo Tbilisi were the holders, having beaten FC Samgurali Tskhaltubo, Samgurali in the 2021 Georgian Cup, 2021 Cup final. They were eliminated by FC Lokomotive Tbilisi, Lokomotive Tbilisi II in the semifinals. FC Torpedo Kutaisi, Torpedo Kutaisi beat FC Lokomotive Tbilisi, Lokomotive's reserve team in the final to win the fifth Georgian Cup final and first since 2018 Georgian Cup, 2018. A single-elimination, knockout, or sudden death tournament is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of each match-up is immediately eliminated from the tournament. FC Gonio
FC Gonio ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი გონიო) is a Georgian association football club based in Gonio, the southern settlement of Batumi. They started taking part in the national league in 2021 and have since achieved two promotions within the three seasons. As winners of the 2023 season in Liga 4, Gonio have secured a place in Liga 3 for 2024. FC Zana ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი ზანა) is a Georgian association football club based in the town of Abasha. Following the 2023 season, they won promotion to Liga 4, the forth tier of the national league system. History The third tier is the highest division where Zana have taken part since the formation of independent Georgian championship in 1990. The team gained promotion to Meore Liga in 2015, although their tenure there lasted two seasons. Following their relegation in 2016, Zana spent seven seasons in Regionuli Liga. FC Mertskhali ( ka, მერცხალი ოზურგეთი; English: Swallows) is a Georgian association football club from Ozurgeti, currently playing in Regionuli Liga, the fifth tier of the national league system. The club has spent four seasons in Umaglesi Liga, the top Georgian division. History Early period Founded in 1936, the team finished 2nd in Division 2 in 1938 and advanced to the main league of the Soviet Georgian championship. In 1958 they claimed their first bronze medals. FC Gardabani (Georgian: სკ გარდაბანი) is a Georgian association football club from the city of Gardabani. Within less than a decade since joining Georgian football, Gardabani have had different years from the lowest division to the 2nd tier. FC Chibati ( ka, საფეხბურთო კლუბი ჩიბათი) is a Georgian association football club based in Lanchkhuti, which currently competes in Regionuli Liga, the fifth tier of the national league system. FC Shukura Kobuleti, commonly known as Shukura Kobuleti or simply Shukura, is a Georgian football club from Kobuleti, the second largest city of Adjara. After the 2022 season, they were promoted to Erovnuli Liga, the top tier of Georgian championship. History Established in 1968, Shukura played three seasons in the Soviet third division. After an independent Georgian league was formed in 1990, the club took part in II league competition before getting promoted to Umaglesi Liga for 1993/94. FC Telavi ''(Georgian:'' საფეხბურთო კლუბი თელავი) is a Georgian professional football club based in the city of Telavi, Kakheti. Bye (sports)
In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament, without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments they can be granted either to reward the highest ranked participant(s) or assigned randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32).
