2022 Commonwealth Games Cricket Qualifier
The 2022 Commonwealth Games Qualifier was a cricket tournament played in Malaysia in January 2022. Five national teams competed for one place in the cricket tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, in Birmingham, England, in July to August 2022. Matches in the qualification tournament were played as Women's Twenty20 Internationals (WT20Is). In November 2020, the ICC announced the qualification process for the 2022 Commonwealth Games tournament. England automatically qualified as the hosts, and were joined by the six highest ranked sides as of 1 April 2021. The final place was decided by the Commonwealth Games Qualifier tournament. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh both won their first three matches to set up a winner-takes-all contest on the last day of the event. Women's Twenty20 International
Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) is the shortest form of women's international cricket. A women's Twenty20 International is a 20 overs-per-side cricket match between two of the International Cricket Council (ICC) members. The first Twenty20 International match was held in August 2004 between England and New Zealand, six months before the first Twenty20 International match was played between two men's teams. The ICC Women's World Twenty20, the highest-level event in the format, was first held in 2009. In April 2018, the ICC granted full Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members. Therefore, all Twenty20 matches played between two international sides after 1 July 2018 will be a full WT20I. A month after the conclusion of the 2018 Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup, which took place in June 2018, the ICC retrospectively gave all the fixtures in the tournament full WT20I status. Winifred Anne Duraisingam (born 6 April 1993) is a Malaysian cricketer and the current captain of the women's national cricket team. A right-handed all-rounder, she opens the batting, and is also an opening medium pace bowler. Early life Duraisingam started playing cricket when she was about eight years old, in the backyard of her home and in the nearby streets. Her brother, Derek, played street cricket with other boys. One day, she asked them whether she could join in and bat. They refused, because she was a small girl, and they were scared she would get hurt. Queentor Abel (born 6 October 1997) is a Kenyan cricketer and the current captain of the women's national cricket team. A right-handed batter and right-arm offbreak bowler, she plays as an all-rounder. Margaret Ngoche or Margaret Banja (born 2 November 1981) is a Kenyan cricketer and a former captain of the Kenya women's cricket team.
