2022 BAL Season Rosters
This page lists the rosters of the 2022 BAL season, the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Each team features 13 players. On the rosters, a maximum of four foreign players is allowed including maximum two non-African players. One player from the BAL Elevate program, a cooperation with the NBA Academy Africa, is placed on each team. 2022 BAL Season
The 2022 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 2, was the second season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 2 March 2022 and ended with the Finals on 28 May 2022. The group phase was played in the Dakar Arena in Dakar and the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo. The playoffs and finals were played in the BK Arena in Kigali for a second year in a row. Tunisian club US Monastir won the finals to win its first-ever BAL title, after defeating Angolan club Petro de Luanda in the 2022 BAL Finals. As winners, Monastir qualified for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Format On 9 December 2021, the BAL announced a new format for the season, with an expansion of the number of total games to 38. The twelve qualified teams are divided over two conference of six teams, in which all teams play the other teams once. Wael Arakji
Wael Arakji ( ar, وائل عرقجي; born 4 September 1994) is a Lebanese basketball player for Lebanese Basketball League club Al Riyadi Club Beirut and the Lebanon national team. He is nicknamed "the Great" (). At the club level, he also played in the Chinese Basketball Association and participated in the NBA Summer League for the Dallas Mavericks in 2019. For the national team, Arakji won the MVP award at the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup, where Lebanon finished runners-up. Professional career Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Arakji caught the eye of head coach of Al Riyadi Beirut, Slobodan Subotić, following his performances with Lebanon at the 2012 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship. Club Africain ( ar, النادي الإفريقي) is a Tunisian professional basketball club from Tunis. The club competes in the Championnat National A. The team has won the national championship four times, the last time being in 2016. Notable players of the team include senior men's Tunisian national basketball team members Mourad El Mabrouk, Marouan Kechrid, Marouen Lahmar, and Naim Dhifallah. History The basketball section of Club Africain was established in 1956. The team entered the first-level Championnat National A in the 1979–80 season. Eskander Bhouri (born 12 July 1997) is a Tunisian basketball player who currently plays for Club Africain of the Championnat Pro A. He started his career with his hometown club US Monastir, where he played until signing for Club Africain in 2021. Mourad El Mabrouk (born 19 October 1986) is a Tunisian professional basketball player who currently plays for Jalaa of the Syrian Basketball League (SBL). Professional career El Mabrouk has played with Club Africain in the Tunisian League. In May 2021, he joined US Monastir to play in the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He was a starter for Monastir as the team went on to play in the 2021 BAL Finals, where they lost to Zamalek. El Mabrouk averaged 6 points and 2.5 assists game. On May 6, 2022, El Mabrouk signed with Jalaa of the Syrian Basketball League ahead of the Final Four stage. SLAC (basketball)
Seydou Legacy Athlétique Club, commonly known as SLAC, is a Guinean basketball team from Conakry. The team plays in the Ligue 1, as well as in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) as of the 2022 season. SLAC has won the Ligue 1 championship six times in history. SLAC plays its home games in the Palais de Sports de Stade du 28 Septembre, located next to the multi-purpose stadium. Marcus Christopher Crawford (born September 30, 1992) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for Al Ittihad Alexandria (basketball), Al Ittihad Alexandria of the Egyptian Basketball Premier League. Omar Abada
Omar Abada ( ar, عمر عبادة, born 20 April 1993) is a Tunisian professional basketball player who plays for Al Wahda Damascus of the Syrian Basketball League. Abada also plays for the Tunisia national basketball team. Born in Tunis, he started his career in 2010 with Étoile de Radès where he stayed for eight seasons. Makrem Ben Romdhane (alternate spellings: Makram, Macram) ( ar, مكرم بن رمضان; born March 27, 1989) is a Tunisian professional basketball player for Benfica and .
