2021–22 Chattanooga Mocs Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Chattanooga Mocs men's basketball team represented the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mocs, led by fifth-year head coach Lamont Paris, played their home games at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as members of the Southern Conference. They finished the season 27–8, 14–4 in SoCon play to win the regular season SoCon championship. As the No. 1 seed in the SoCon tournament, they defeated The Citadel, Wofford, and Furman to win the tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 13 seed in the South Region, where they lost in the first round to Illinois. Previous season In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Mocs finished the season 18–8, 9–7 in SoCon play to finish in fourth place. Lamont Paris
Lamont Paris (born November 11, 1974) is an American college basketball coach and is currently the head coach for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Playing career Paris played college basketball at The College of Wooster, Ohio, where he was captain for his junior and senior seasons while also being a two-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection. Coaching career After beginning his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater during the 1997-98 season, Paris moved on to assistant coaching stints at DePauw and IUP before landing on Keith Dambrot's staff at Akron where he stayed for five seasons. Paris then joined Bo Ryan's staff at Wisconsin in 2010, and was a part of two Sweet 16 squads and the Badgers' Final Four and national championship game appearances during the 2013–14 and 2014-15 seasons. The 2020–21 East Tennessee State Buccaneers men's basketball team represented East Tennessee State University in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Buccaneers, led by first-year head coach Jason Shay, played their home games at the Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City, Tennessee, as members of the Southern Conference. Previous season The Buccaneers finished the 2019–20 season 30–4, 16–2 in SoCon play to finish as the SoCon regular season champions. They defeated VMI, Western Carolina and Wofford to become champions of the SoCon tournament. They earned the SoCon's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. However, the NCAA Tournament was cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic. On April 30, 2020, head coach Steve Forbes resigned to become the head coach at Wake Forest.
