The 2021 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives election was held on January 3, 2021, on the opening day of the 117th United States Congress, two months after the 2020 United States House of Representatives elections, 2020 elections for the United States House of Representatives. This was the 127th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, speaker of the House of Representatives election since the office was created in 1789. The incumbent speaker, Democratic Party (United States), Democrat Nancy Pelosi, was elected to a fourth (second consecutive) term, defeating Republican Party (United States), Republican Kevin McCarthy (California politician), Kevin McCarthy 216–209, with two votes going to other individuals.
