2021 Players Championship Finals
The 2021 Ladbrokes Players Championship Finals was the fourteenth edition of the PDC darts tournament, which saw the top 64 players from the Players Championship events of 2021 taking part. The tournament took place from 26–28 November 2021 at the Butlin's Resort, Minehead, returning to its usual venue after being held behind closed doors at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry in 2020. Michael van Gerwen was the two-time defending champion after defeating Mervyn King 11–10 in the 2020 final, but lost to Peter Wright at the quarter-final stage. This was the first time since 2014 that van Gerwen failed to reach the final. Wright went on to win the tournament for the first time, defeating Ryan Searle 11–10 in the final. Butlin's Minehead
Butlins Resort Minehead is a holiday camp operated by Butlins, located in Minehead in Somerset, England. It opened in 1962 and remains in use today. It was known as Butlin's Minehead until 1987, and as Somerwest World from then until 1999, when it reopened as Butlins Minehead Resort. History In the winter of 1961, Billy Butlin began work on creating a holiday camp in Minehead. The site was selected because of its flatness, good rail links, and proximity to the town and sea. The site was not without its problems, however, including flooding. In order to solve this, a trench was excavated around the site and an earth wall constructed. Jelle Klaasen
Jelle Klaasen (born 17 October 1984), nicknamed The Cobra, is a Dutch professional darts player who plays in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and World Darts Federation (WDF) events. In 2006, he became the youngest darts player to win the World Darts Championship, aged 21 at the time. He also is a Dutch Open champion. Jamie Hughes (darts Player)
Jamie Hughes (born 27 February 1986) is an English professional darts player. He competes for the Professional Darts Corporation. Career 2014–2015 Hughes broke out in 2014 by entering the world's top ten and reaching the final of the prestigious Winmau World Masters. He defeated Alan Norris 3–2 in the quarter-finals from 2–0 down, and Martin Adams 6–5 in the semi-finals from 5–2 down, also surviving ten match darts in the ninth set. Hughes was eventually beaten 7–3 by Martin Phillips having led 2–0 and thrown for the third set. Ryan Searle (darts Player)
Ryan Searle (born 21 October 1987) is an English professional darts player who plays in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career He reached the last 16 of the 2013 BDO World Masters after a controversial win over Richie George, when his winning dart at double 10 did not actually hit the target, but referee Nick Rolls called 'game shot', ending the leg and giving Searle the match. In 2016, he finished second on the PDC Challenge Tour Order of Merit, thanks to winning two events along the way, which meant he automatically gained a PDC Tour Card. Peter Wright (darts Player)
Peter Wright (born 10 March 1970) is a Scottish professional darts player who plays in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), where he is currently ranked No. 2 in the world. Nicknamed "Snakebite", he is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time and is a two-time world champion, having won the PDC World Darts Championship in 2020 and 2022. Mervyn King (born 15 March 1966) is an English professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tournaments. Nicknamed The King, he has reached seven PDC major TV finals and reached a peak of No. 4 in the PDC Order of Merit. Early life King first took up the game at the age of 12, playing with an old rolled-cardboard dartboard given to him by his father. Michael Van Gerwen
Michael van Gerwen (; born 25 April 1989) is a Dutch professional darts player. He is currently ranked number 3 in the world, having been number 1 from 2014 to 2021. He is also a three-time PDC World Champion, having won the title in 2014, 2017 and 2019. Van Gerwen is regarded as one of the best players of all time. Minehead is a coastal town and civil parish in Somerset, England.
