Mervyn King (darts Player)
Mervyn King (born 15 March 1966) is an English professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tournaments. Nicknamed The King, he has reached seven PDC major TV finals and reached a peak of No. 4 in the PDC Order of Merit. Early life King first took up the game at the age of 12, playing with an old rolled-cardboard dartboard given to him by his father. His father insisted that he played darts using competition distance and height. By the age of 13, he had ambitions to become a professional player as he was playing county darts at Superleague level. His first county A game was at the age of 14 and he won his local men's singles league at that age. Additionally, King hit his first ever nine-dart leg of 501 aged 14 in a practice match with his father. 2008 Las Vegas Desert Classic
The 2008 partypoker.com Las Vegas Desert Classic was the seventh installment of the Las Vegas Desert Classic, a darts tournament organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. It was held in the evenings (GMT, morning local time/ PST) between 2–6 July 2008 at Mandalay Bay, Paradise, United States. Phil Taylor emerged as the champion, in all but one match posting above a 100 average, beating James Wade in the final. This was his fourth Desert Classic title, having bounced back from a first round defeat to Mark Dudbridge in the 2007 Las Vegas Desert Classic. Last year's champion Raymond van Barneveld was looking to retain his title, but he was knocked out in the second round by Alan Tabern. Dutch Open (darts)
The Dutch Open is amongst the longest running darts tournaments having started back in 1973. The popularity of darts in the Netherlands since Raymond van Barneveld began amassing world titles has seen the number of entries for the tournament rise dramatically. The 2007 event had 2867 entries in the Men's Singles, 1179 in the Men's Pairs, 418 in the Women's Singles and 176 in the Women's Pairs. Although the tournament is classed an "Open" event, only players eligible to for the Winmau World Masters and BDO World Championship are now allowed to enter. BDO British Open
The British Open is one of the longest-running darts events, having started just a few months after the first ever Winmau World Masters. The tournament used to be televised by the BBC from its inception, but it ceased to cover the event after 1983. It was often held between Christmas and New Year - the 1975 Championship was actually played in late 1974. The tradition was maintained until near the millennium, when the organisers moved the tournament back to September/October. In recent years the tournament has been televised on Eurosport along with several other BDO tournaments that were previously untelevised. BDO Gold Cup
The BDO Gold Cup began in 1978 and was held in Stoke. It was broadcast on the BBC until 1982, with the 1983 tournament blacked out due to a technicians' strike. ITV took over from 1984-1988, and BSB/BSkyB's The Sports Channel/Sky Sports covered the event from 1990-92. 2021 World Series Of Darts Finals
The 2021 Jack's Casino World Series of Darts Finals was the seventh staging of the World Series of Darts Finals tournament, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. The tournament took place at AFAS Live, Amsterdam, Netherlands, from 29 to 31 October 2021. It featured a field of 24 players. Gerwyn Price was the defending champion, after beating Rob Cross 11–9 in the 2020 final, but lost to compatriot Jonny Clayton in the quarter-finals. Clayton went on to win the title, defeating Dimitri Van den Bergh 11–6 in the final. This was the first time the tournament had taken place without any representatives from outside Europe. The 2021 Ladbrokes Masters was the ninth staging of the non-ranking Masters darts tournament, held by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It was held from 29 to 31 January 2021, behind closed doors at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, England. Peter Wright was the defending champion, after beating Michael Smith 11–10 in the 2020 final, but he lost 11–10 to Jonny Clayton in the semi-finals. In its first major change since its inception in 2013, the field was increased from 16 to 24 players, with the top 8 players entering at the second round. Jonny Clayton won his first individual televised title, beating Mervyn King 11–8 in the final, and by winning the tournament, he also secured his place in the 2021 Premier League, which he won. The 2014 Unibet Masters was the second staging of the non-ranking Masters darts tournament, held by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It was held between 1–2 November 2014 at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland. Phil Taylor was the defending champion, having beaten Adrian Lewis 10–1 in the inaugural tournament's final. James Wade beat Taylor 11–9 in the semi-finals. Wade got off to a slow start in the final against Mervyn King, and trailed 0–5, 1–6, 2–9 and 6–10. 2020 Players Championship Finals
The 2020 Ladbrokes Players Championship Finals was the thirteenth edition of the PDC darts tournament, which saw the top 64 players from the Players Championship events of 2020 taking part. The 2010 Players Championship Finals (officially the 2010 totesport.com Players Championship Finals) was a professional darts tournament held at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, England, from 28–31 January 2010. It was the first of the five Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) premier events in the 2010 calendar and the second edition of the tournament. The event was sponsored by the betting company totesport.com and featured an increased prize fund of £250,000 with £60,000 going to the winner.
