2021 Alberta Municipal Elections
Municipal elections were held in Alberta, Canada on October 18, 2021. Chief elected officials (mayors or reeves) and councillors (or aldermen), are up for election in all cities (except Lloydminster), towns, villages, specialized municipalities, and municipal districts, as are trustees for public and separate school divisions. A provincewide vote on equalization and Daylight Saving Time was also held. Background New spending limits will come into force before the election. New revisions to the Local Authorities Act will now place a $30,000 donation limit on third party advertisers (such as labour unions, and special interest groups). But also exempts them from disclosing their financials until after election day. This is the first time that limits have been placed on third party groups, but critics say the limit is still too high to prevent political influence and that spending is still not capped. Lethbridge ( ) is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. With a population of 101,482 in its 2019 Alberta municipal censuses, 2019 municipal census, Lethbridge became the fourth Alberta city to surpass 100,000 people. Leduc, Alberta
Leduc ( ) is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. It is south of the provincial capital of Edmonton and is part of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. History Leduc was established in 1891, when Robert Telford, a settler, who had bought land, in 1889, near a lake which would later bear his name. It was on that piece of land where the new settlement would take root. Telford established a stopping place for the stagecoach line that in 1889 connected Calgary to Edmonton. It became known as Telford's Place. Telford previously served as an officer for the North-West Mounted Police, and later became Leduc's first postmaster, first general merchantman, and first justice of the peace. He was also elected to serve as Leduc's first Member of the Alberta legislature (MLA)in 1905. Grande Prairie is a city in northwest Alberta, Canada within the southern portion of an area known as Peace River Country. Gale Katchur is a Canadians, Canadian politician and current mayor of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Biography Katchur was born Gale Lewchuk in Fort St. John, British Columbia, but raised on a farm near Spirit River, Alberta. Katchur served as a civil servant in the Alberta government before moving to private industry with Baker International. A few years after the birth of her second child in 1983, Katchur was hired as a civil servant for the City of Fort Saskatchewan where she worked for 17 years. Fort Saskatchewan is a city along the North Saskatchewan River in Alberta, Canada. It is northeast of Edmonton, the provincial capital. Cold Lake is a city in northeastern Alberta, Canada and is named after the lake nearby. Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake (CFB Cold Lake) is situated within the city's outer limits.
