2020 Oklahoma Question 802
Oklahoma Question 802, the Oklahoma Medicaid Expansion Initiative, was a 2020 ballot measure on the June 30 ballot (alongside primaries for various statewide offices) to expand Medicaid in the state of Oklahoma. It passed narrowly, over the objections of many prominent state elected officials, such as Oklahoma's governor Kevin Stitt. Medicaid expansion went into effect on July 1, 2021. Contents The proposal was listed on ballots as follows: The wording was challenged by the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, a conservative think tank, which claimed that it was unconstitutional and misrepresenting what the measure actually does. Oklahoma elections in 2020 were held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Its primaries were held on June 30, 2020, with runoffs taking place on August 25. The U.S. state of Oklahoma has 77 counties. It is ranked 20th in size and 17th in the number of counties, between Mississippi with 82 counties and Arkansas with 75 counties. Oklahoma originally had seven counties (Logan, Cleveland, Oklahoma, Canadian, Kingfisher, Payne, and Beaver) when it was first organized as the Oklahoma Territory. These counties were designated numerically, first through seventh. New counties added after this were designated by letters of the alphabet. The first seven counties were later renamed.
