2020 British Speedway Championship
The 2020 British Speedway Championship was the 60th edition of the British Speedway Championship. The competition was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the semi-finals being cancelled. The final was originally set to take place at Ipswich with limited fans in attendance, however it was later switched to the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester. due to bad weather Defending champion Charles Wright decided not to defend his title. The final was won by Australian Rory Schlein, who rode under an ACU (British) licence. He beat Richard Lawson and former three-time world champion Jason Crump, who also rode under an ACU (British) licence, in the final. British Speedway Championship
The British Speedway Championship is an annual motorcycle speedway competition open to British national speedway riders. The winner of the event becomes the British Speedway Champion. History Inaugurated in 1961 as a qualifying round of the Speedway World Championship it was open to riders from Britain and the British dominions. It was initially dominated by riders from New Zealand such as Barry Briggs and Ivan Mauger because of the British Final forming part of the World Speedway championship qualifying rounds. Briggs and Mauger were multiple world champions. It was not until 1975 that the final was restricted to British riders. Countries such as Australia and New Zealand then held their own World Individual Speedway championship qualifying rounds. Joseph Thompson (born 22 April 2004) known as Joe Thompson is a speedway rider from England. Speedway career Thompson began his speedway career riding for the Leicester Lion Cubs during the 2019 National Development League speedway season. In 2021, he broke into the Leicester Lions senior team for the SGB Championship 2021. In 2022, he continued to represent Leicester but made his debut for Wolverhampton Wolves (in the highest league in Britain) during the SGB Premiership 2022 season. Josh Bates (speedway Rider)
Josh Bates (born 1 February 1996) is a British speedway rider. Early career Born in Barnsley, Bates had never been on any type of motorbike until the beginning of 2010, when he got his first 125cc speedway bike. After a few months of practicing on this he was ready for a 250cc, which he got in June 2010. After a few more months of practice he entered the 2011 250cc British Championship, where he finished 4th overall. As well as competing in the British championship he rode in the amateur summer championship at Scunthorpe which he won and he also competed in the 250cc world championship in Sweden. Career In January 2012, he started riding a 500cc for the first time, soon after he was offered a team place by the Mildenhall Fen Tigers. Daniel Thompson (born 22 April 2004) is a speedway rider from England. Speedway career Along with his twin brother Joe, Thompson initially gained experience competing at junior level, and as a mascot for Leicester Lions. Thompson has raced in all three tiers of British Speedway. In 2019, he rode for the Leicester Lion Cubs before moving up to the Leicester Lions senior team for the 2021 SGB Championship season. Tom Brennan (speedway Rider)
Thomas Brennan (born 2 July 2001) is a British speedway rider. Career In 2016, Brennan made a number of guest appearances at reserve for Eastbourne Eagles after he turned 15 and was eligible to ride in the National League. He made his debut for Eastbourne on his 15th birthday against Birmingham Brummies, however he crashed in his first ride and suffered a broken collarbone. Brennan retained his spot for Eastbourne for the 2017 season. A good start to the season saw him move from reserve to number 1, before he moved to number 4 for the majority of the season. He scored his first paid maximum scoring 9+3 from 4 rides in the National League Knockout Cup Final against Mildenhall Fen Tigers. Joshua Liam Auty (born 8 September 1990) in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, is a British speedway rider. Career Auty was part of the Scunthorpe Scorpions team that won the Conference League Four-Team Championship, held on 18 May 2007 at Plymouth Coliseum. On 10 September 2007, Auty was signed to the Coventry Bees to ride in the Elite League. On 21 September 2007, Auty was selected to represent Great Britain for the 2007 Under 21-World Cup Final. Paul Starke
Paul Simon Starke (born 18 November 1990) is an English speedway rider. Career Born in Hereford, Starke started his career with the Buxton Hitmen in 2007, before going on to have spells at a variety of different clubs during his development into an Elite League rider. Starke's most successful period to date was his two years with the Cradley Heathens in the National League from 2013 to 2014. It was here that he won two league titles, forming a formidable partnership with Steve Worrall during the second year and he was part of the Dudley/Cradley team that won the National League Fours in 2013and 2014.
