Dan Thompson (speedway Rider)
Daniel Thompson (born 22 April 2004) is a speedway rider from England. Speedway career Along with his twin brother Joe, Thompson initially gained experience competing at junior level, and as a mascot for Leicester Lions. Thompson has raced in all three tiers of British Speedway. In 2019, he rode for the Leicester Lion Cubs before moving up to the Leicester Lions senior team for the 2021 SGB Championship season. In 2022, he continued to represent the Lions but also rode in the SGB Premiership for Sheffield Tigers, joining them as their number 8 rider. He helped the Lion Cubs dominate the season by winning the league, successfully defending their National League Knockout Cup title (from 2019) and winning the Pairs Championship, partnered by his brother Joe. In addition, he finished top of the NDL averages. SGB Championship 2021
The SGB Championship 2021 was the second tier division, called the SGB Championship, of the British speedway championship in 2021. Changes from the last edition of the Championship (held in 2019) were the addition of three teams and the loss of two teams. The 2019 Premiership club Poole Pirates, were the biggest profile club to join the league after dropping down from the highest league. Also the Kent Kings and Plymouth Gladiators both joined the league from the National Development League. Sheffield Tigers left the league to move up to the highest division and Somerset Rebels withdrew from the league altogether. The league started on 21 May with twelve teams participating and race meetings were covered by Eurosport. Poole Pirates finished top of the regular season table and secured a place in the play off semi finals. Poole duly won their play off semi final against Leicester and would meet Glasgow in the final. 2023 National Development League Speedway Season
The 2023 National Development League is the third division/tier of British speedway for the 2023 season. It is a semi-professional development league, containing mainly the junior sides of SGB Premiership and SGB Championship clubs. Leicester Lion Cubs will defend the title. Summary Eight clubs will compete for the National Development League Championship after the addition of the Workington Comets to the league, who will race on the new Northside track. Armadale Devils were renamed Edinburgh Monarchs Academy, while the Plymouth Centurions did not return. The league points system changed in-line with the SGB Premiership and SGB Championship, with teams scoring two points for a win (home or away), with a bonus point scored for an aggregate win. A 'Super Heat' has also been introduced in the event of a tied meeting, with the winners scoring two league points and the losers gaining one point. The 2023 Sports Insure SGB Premiership is the 88th season of the top tier of British speedway and the 6th known as the SGB Premiership. There was an increase of one team after the Leicester Lions opted to move up from the SGB Championship. 2023 summary Seven clubs will compete for the league championship, with Leicester Lions joining the from the division below. Each club will race against each other four times (home and away twice), meaning a total of 24 fixtures each. The 'Super Heat' scoring system was retained from the 2022 season, however extra points for away fixtures have been scrapped in favour of an aggregate bonus point. The top four teams in the league will qualify for the playoffs, with the two semi-final winners then reaching the Grand Final. The National League Knockout Cup is a speedway third tier Knockout Cup competition in the United Kingdom. The competition was previously known as the Academy League Knockout Cup (1995) and the Conference League Knockout Cup (1996-2008) until it changed name to the National League Knockout Cup.
