Sydney FC (W-League)
Sydney Football Club Women is an Australian women's football club based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It competes in the A-League Women, the top tier of women's football in Australia. The club is directly affiliated with Sydney FC. History Establishment The formation of the W-League in October 2008 saw the league composed of eight teams. Seven of the eight clubs were directly affiliated with the A-League clubs, Sydney FC being one. The women's team shares the men's club name and colours. Inaugural season The inaugural W-League season was played over 10 rounds, followed by a finals series. During Sydney's season opener, the squad defeated Perth Glory 4–0 with a brace scored by Leena Khamis and two goals from Danielle Small and Heather Garriock. The team captain of an association football team, sometimes known as the skipper, is a team member chosen to be the on-pitch leader of the team; they are often one of the older or more experienced members of the squad, or a player that can heavily influence a game or has good leadership qualities. Mackenzie Hawkesby (born 13 April 2000) is an Australian professional footballer currently playing for Sydney FC in the Australian A-League Women. Club career Sydney FC (2019–2023) Hawkesby made her senior debut for Sydney FC on 17 November 2019 in a 3–0 win against Melbourne Victory. In the 2021–22 A-League Women, Hawkesby played every available minute and led the league in assists, crosses, and chances created. Alanna Stephanie Kennedy (born 21 January 1995) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a defender for Manchester City in the English FA Women's Super League, as well as the Australia national team. Kennedy is recognized as being a versatile, technical player and is a right-footed free kick specialist. Veronica Anne Latsko (born December 12, 1995) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for OL Reign of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). College career Latsko made 93 appearances for the Cavaliers during her four-year college career. In 2014 and 2017 she appeared in every game for Virginia. Natalie Louise Tobin (born 13 October 1996) is an Australian football (soccer) player, who plays as a midfielder and defender for Sydney FC in the Australian W-League.
