2018 WSBL Season
The 2018 WSBL season was the 30th season of the Women's State Basketball League (SBL). The regular season began on Friday 16 March, with round 1 seeing a 2017 grand final rematch between the Perry Lakes Hawks and Mandurah Magic. The 2018 WSBL All-Star Game was played on 4 June at Bendat Basketball Centre – the home of basketball in Western Australia. The regular season ended on Saturday 28 July. The finals began on Friday 3 August and ended on Friday 31 August, when the Lakeside Lightning defeated the Magic in the WSBL Grand Final. Regular season The regular season began on Friday 16 March and ended on Saturday 28 July after 20 rounds of competition. Again in 2018, all games over the Easter Weekend were played on a blockbuster Thursday night with six venues all hosting games before the league took a break for the Easter long weekend. State Basketball League
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. Point (basketball)
Points in basketball are used to keep track of the score in a game. Points can be accumulated by making field goals (two or three points) or free throws (one point). If a player makes a field goal from within the three-point line, the player scores two points. If the player makes a field goal from beyond the three-point line, the player scores three points. The team that has recorded the most points at the end of a game is declared that game's winner. Natalie Burton
Natalie Burton (born 23 March 1989) is an Australian basketball player and coach. She is currently the assistant coach for the Perth Lynx of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She represented the Australian national team and was a regular with the Perry Lakes Hawks of the NBL1 West until 2021. Junior career Burton made her debut for the Perry Lakes Hawks in the State Basketball League (SBL) in 2006, going on to win the Most Improved Player award in 2008. Between 2008 and 2012, she played college basketball in the United States for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Darcee Garbin
Darcee Garbin (born 24 June 1994) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Goldfields Giants of the NBL1 West. Early life and family Garbin is originally from Western Australia. Born in Kalgoorlie, she was raised in Kambalda before moving to Perth with her family. Garbin's younger sister, Sophie Garbin, is an Australia Fast5 netball international. Playing career WNBL Garbin made her professional debut with the Australian Institute of Sport during the 2011–12 season. Samantha Allison Whitcomb (born July 20, 1988) is an American-Australian professional basketball player for the Perth Lynx of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and the New York Liberty of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Floreat, Western Australia
Floreat is a residential suburb west-northwest of the central business district of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It is bordered on Underwood Avenue, Selby Street, Cromarty Road and Durston Road. It is the head of the Town of Cambridge, which has its municipal offices and library in the suburb. Kisha Lee (born July 11, 1985) is an American professional basketball player for the South West Metro Pirates of the NBL1 North. She played college basketball for UNLV. Ashleigh Isenbarger (née Grant; born 15 May 1997) is an Australian professional basketball player who last played for the Perth Lynx of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). Mikayla Pirini (born 29 June 1996) is a New Zealand-born Australian professional basketball player. Career WNBL Born in New Zealand, Pirini grew up in Perth, Western Australia. She began her WNBL career in her home town, as a development player, with the West Coast Waves for the 2013–14 WNBL season. Pirini remained a team member for the following season. Kayla Maria Steindl (née Standish; born November 19, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for the Hobart Chargers of the NBL1 South.
