2018 Micronesian Games
The 9th Micronesian Games were held from July 15 to July 27, 2018, in Yap, Federated States of Micronesia. Participating nations Ordinarily, there are 10 participants at the games. However, Nauru were unable to compete in this edition due to travel costs. As such, the participants at the games were: the four constituent states of the Federated States of Micronesia ( Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Yap), three sovereign countries (Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau) and two insular areas of the United States (Northern Mariana Islands, Guam) all located within the Micronesia region. Sports Athletes competed in 13 different sports at the games: athletics, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, the "Micronesian all-around", open water swimming, soccer, spearfishing, va'a, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling. 2014 Micronesian Games
The 8th Micronesian Games were held from July 20 to July 30, 2014, in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The Games began with an opening ceremony on the track and field grounds. They included "traditional war dances", and the unfurling of the Games flag in the air as it was delivered by parachute. At the closing of the Games, Guam had topped the medal table with eighty-one medals, of which forty-two were gold. Participating countries All Micronesian nations, states and territories participated in the Games. The host country was represented by four teams, one for each of its federated states: Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap. The other participants included four independent countries (Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau) and two unincorporated organised territories of the United States: the Northern Mariana Islands and Guam. Jonah Harris
Jonah Harris (born 16 January 1999) is a Nauruan track and field athlete who specializes in the 100 metres and the 200 metres. Harris most notably represented Nauru at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia and was the first ever athlete representing Nauru at the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. He currently holds the national records for Nauru in the 60 metres indoor event, the 100 metres and the 200 metres and has one more national record still awaiting ratification from the Nauru Athletics Association (NAA). 2016–17 Prior to the 2017 Pacific Mini Games, the only competitions Harris had experience with was school meets in Queensland and only achieving a personal best time of 11.94 seconds. Rachel Abrams (born 13 July 1995) is a sprinter from the Northern Mariana Islands. She first competed internationally in the 60 metres at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul where set a personal best time of 8.31 seconds. Four months later she competed in the 100 metres at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics in Barcelona. Racing three days before her 17th birthday, Abrams set a new personal best of 13.05 seconds. Florian Skilang Temengil (born November 4, 1986) is a Palauan wrestler at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. Skilang competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China in the freestyle wrestling. He lost his bout to Ottó Aubéli of Hungary 0-6, 1-7. Lataisi Mwea (born 26 July 2000) is an I-Kiribati athlete who competes in sprinting events. From 2019, Mwea has been based at the OAA High Performance Training Centre in Gold Coast when he was sent by his Kiribati Athletics Association for a high jump training scholarship. He broke the national record for high jump when he jumped 2.00 m clear in October 2019. After a change of coach to Andrew Lulham, Lataisi indicated also an interest in undertaking sprint training in addition to his jumps training and linked with Leanne Hines-Smith for track sessions.
