2018 Michigan Senate Election
The Michigan Senate elections of 2018 took place on November 6, 2018, alongside elections to be Michigan's governor, Class I United States Senator, Attorney General, Secretary of State as well elections for Michigan's 14 seats in the United States House of Representatives and all 110 seats in the Michigan House of Representatives; to elect the 38 members that will comprise the Michigan Senate. The Republican, Democratic and Libertarian parties chose their nominees in a partisan primary on August 7, 2018. The Working Class Party, U.S. Taxpayers Party, Green Party and Natural Law Party chose their nominees at state party conventions. Term-limited members Under the Michigan Constitution, members of the state Senate are able to serve only two four-year terms, and members of the House of Representatives are limited to three two-year terms. Michigan Senate
The Michigan Senate is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature. Along with the Michigan House of Representatives, it composes the state legislature, which has powers, roles and duties defined by Article IV of the Michigan Constitution, adopted in 1963. The primary purpose of the Legislature is to enact new laws and amend or repeal existing laws. The Michigan Senate is composed of 38 members, each elected from a single-member district with a population of between approximately 212,400 to 263,500 residents. Legislative districts are drawn on the basis of population figures, provided by the federal decennial census. Senators' terms begin immediately upon their election. Republicans hold the majority in the State Senate with twenty-two seats; Democrats hold the minority with sixteen seats. Rebekah Warren
Rebekah Lynn Warren (born November 25, 1971) is a former American Democratic legislator from Ann Arbor, Michigan, who represented the 55th District of the Michigan House of Representatives from January 1, 2019 until January 1, 2021. She was elected to this position on November 6, 2018, beating Republican opponent Bob Baird, 74% to 26%. Previously, she served two terms as State Representative for Michigan's 53rd District, from 2007 to 2010, and two terms in the Michigan Senate, from 2010 to 2018. Michigan's 18th Senate district is one of 38 districts in the Michigan Senate. The 18th district was created by the 1850 Michigan Constitution, as the 1835 constitution only permitted a maximum of eight senate districts. Vincent "Vince" Gregory (born July 20, 1948) is a politician from the state of Michigan. From 2011 to 2019, he represented the 11th Senate district in the Michigan Senate. Steve Bieda
Steven Marion Bieda (born January 21, 1961) is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party who is the Assistant Democratic Floor Leader of the Michigan State Senate. Bieda has served in the Michigan Senate since 2011, representing the 9th district, which includes the communities of Center Line, Eastpointe, Fraser, Roseville, Warren, and portions of Clinton Township and Grosse Pointe Shores. Hoon-Yung Hopgood
Hoon-Yung Hopgood (born December 8, 1974) is a former member of the Michigan State Senate, representing the 6th district (formerly numbered as the 8th district) from 2011 until 2018. He is a Democrat and a former member of the Michigan State House of Representatives. Morris Hood III
Morris W. Hood III (May 21, 1965 – May 11, 2020) was an American politician who served as a member of the Michigan Senate. He represented District 3, encompassing Dearborn, Melvindale, and a portion of Detroit from 2011 to 2018. Early life and education Hood was born in Detroit. He went to Wayne State University and Henry Ford College. Hood was the son of Morris Hood Jr. and the nephew of Raymond W. Hood.
