The 2018 European Speed Skating Championships were held between 5 and 7 January 2018 at the Kolomna Speed Skating Center in Kolomna, Russia. Kolomna Speed Skating Center
The Kolomna Speed Skating Center (Russian: Коломенский центр конькобежного спорта) is a 6,150-seat indoor speed skating oval in Kolomna, Russia, also known as the Kometa Ice Rink. It opened in May 2006. It cost €150 million to build the venue. The venue hosted the 2008 European Speed Skating Championships in January 2008 as well as World Cup events in 2007, 2009 and 2013. Jan Blokhuijsen
Jan Blokhuijsen (; born 1 April 1989) is an Olympic award-winning Dutch long-track speed skater who until 2013 skated for the commercial TVM team. Career He currently holds the world record in the team pursuit discipline, along with teammates Sven Kramer and Koen Verweij. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he won a silver medal in the Men's 5000 m competition. At the 2014 European allround championships in Hamar, Blokhuijsen won his first European title. In 2007, he got his VWO degree at school. After a successful period in skating and inline skating (in which he won several Dutch and European titles at the junior categories and a second place at the world championships in Korea) he decided to focus only on speedskating. Andrea Giovannini (born 27 August 1993) is an Italian speed skater. Giovannini competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics for Italy. He competed in the 5000 metres, where he finished 17th. As of September 2014, Giovannini's best performance at the World Allround Championships is 17th, in 2014. He also won three medals at the 2013 World Junior Championships, including gold in the team pursuit. Pekka Koskela
Pekka Koskela (born 29 November 1982) is a Finnish speed skater, specialising on the sprint distances 500 m and 1000 m. He is the former world record holder on the 1000 m with the time 1:07.00. In December 2001 he set a junior world record on the 500 m with the time 35.89. Since that time he has established himself as one of the best speed skating sprinters in the world. He won his first medal, a bronze, on the 1000 m in the 2005 World Single Distance Championships. Koskela was number 10 in the 500 m of the 2006 Winter Olympics. Koskela was one of the two dominating skaters at the 2007 World Sprint Championship in Vikingskipet, Hamar. He won both 500 metres, and set a rink record with 34.80, and was leading the proceedings up to the last distance, where he lost the world championship title to Lee Kyou-hyuk.
