Kolomna Speed Skating Center
The Kolomna Speed Skating Center (Russian: Коломенский центр конькобежного спорта) is a 6,150-seat indoor speed skating oval in Kolomna, Russia, also known as the Kometa Ice Rink. It opened in May 2006. It cost €150 million to build the venue. The venue hosted the 2008 European Speed Skating Championships in January 2008 as well as World Cup events in 2007, 2009 and 2013. Kolomna ( rus, Колóмна, p=kɐˈlomnə) is a historical types of inhabited localities in Russia, city in Moscow Oblast, Russia, situated at the confluence of the Moskva River, Moskva and Oka Rivers, (by rail) southeast of Moscow. Population: History Mentioned for the first time in 1177, Kolomna was founded in 1140–1160 according to the latest archaeological surveys. Kolomna's name may originate from the Old East Slavic, Old Russian term for "on the bend (in the river)", especially as the old city is located on a sharp bend in the Moskva River, Moscow River. Samalog
Samalog (or samalogue in UK spelling; sometimes sammenlagt in both Norwegian and Danish: "put together", "total sum") is a scoring system in speed skating. It is used in allround tournaments to convert results at various distances into points in order to determine an overall champion. All times are measured in seconds and then converted to points, using the average times on 500 meter units; thus the number of points for a 1,000 meters race is the time in seconds divided by two (so the average time for each of the two 500 meter "units" in a 1,000 meters race); for the 1,500 meters, the time in seconds is divided by three, and so on. Points are calculated to three decimal places and truncation is applied; the numbers are not rounded. All points are added up; the lower the score the better. Irene Karlijn (Ireen) Wüst (; born 1 April 1986) is a Dutch former long track speed skater. Wüst became the most successful speed skating olympian ever by achieving at least one gold medal in each of five consecutive Winter Olympic appearances and is the only athlete to win an individual gold medal in five consecutive Olympics, Summer or Winter. Wüst is both the youngest Dutch Olympic gold medalist and the oldest speed skating gold medalist in the history of the Winter Games. Yu Jing (; ; born 29 May 1985) is a Chinese long-track speed-skater who specializes in the sprint distances. She became the 2012 World Sprint Speed Skating Championships, World Sprint Champion in 2012, setting world records in both the sprint combination and the 500 metres. She held the world record in the sprint combination until Heather Bergsma, Heather Richardson bettered it in January 2013, and the World record progression 500 m speed skating women, world record in 500 metres until Lee Sang-hwa broke it in November 2013. Martina Sáblíková
Martina Sáblíková () (born 27 May 1987) is a Czech speed skater, specializing in long track speed skating. She is an Olympic gold medal winner and a multiple European and World allround champion. She became the first Czech to win two Olympic gold medals at one Winter Games in 2010. Sáblíková also competes in inline speed skating and road cycling races as a part of her summer preparation for the skating season. In cycling, she focuses on individual time trial discipline in which Sáblíková holds multiple Czech Republic National Championships titles and belongs to the world's top 15 female time-trialists. Marrit Leenstra (speed Skater)
Marrit Leenstra (; born 10 May 1989) is a Dutch former long track speed skater. Skating career In the 2007 season she made her World Cup debut in Moscow. In the 2008 season she skated a junior world record in the 1500 meters at the World Cup in Salt Lake City. Later this season she qualified for the European Championships and ranked 6th after all four distances. With this result she qualified for the World Allround. At the World Allround Championships in Berlin she placed 12th after four distances. In February 2008, Leenstra was crowned the World Junior Speed Skating Champion in Changchun, China. Margot Madelaine Boer (born 7 August 1985) is a Dutch former speed skater. She specialised in the 500, 1000 and 1500 m. Sports career After spending a few years at local teams in the South Holland area, Boer was seen as one of the Netherlands main future talents and was offered a contract at the KNSB youth development team for the 2006–07 season. In the years before she already participated in several World Cup meetings. Her first success in her new team was winning a gold medal in the 500 m at the 2007 KNSB Dutch Single Distance Championships. Jenny Wolf (born 31 January 1979) is a former German speed skater. On 10 March 2007 at the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, she broke the world record for the women's 500 m in her second race. She finished sixth on the 500 m at the 2006 Winter Olympics of Turin, and tenth on the same distance in 2002. Wolf won the Speed Skating World Cup in the 2005–06 season on the 500 m. Her favorite distance is the 100 m, but this is not an Olympic event. Wolf won the silver medal at the 500 m at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, five hundredths of a second after South Korean Lee Sang-hwa over two races.
