2018 Batangafo Clashes
In 2018 a series of clashes occurred in the Central African Republic town of Batangafo between Anti-balaka and Ex-Séléka militias. Timeline of events * 31 October: Anti-balaka fighters stabbed motorcyclist from Kabo who delivered vaccines to hospital. In retaliation Ex-Séléka fighters attacked IDP camps burning shelters. * 1 November: Ex-Séléka attacked and looted places in Batangafo. Kabo
Kabo is a town in the northern Central African Republic, lying north west of Kaga Bandoro. It is a market town and the border post for Chad. History The northern nomads in the Central African Republic resented the central government and a rebel People's Army for the Restoration of the Republic and Democracy (PAPRD) was formed in the 1990s. Clashes between the rebels and the central government intensified, and many people from Kabo and the surrounding area fled as refugees to Chad. However, in January 2008, PAPRD and the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) agreed on a ceasefire for the Kabo area, allowing many of the refugees to return. On 19 December 2012 the city was captured by Séléka coalition. Ouham is one of the 16 prefectures of the Central African Republic. Its capital is Bossangoa. Geography The prefecture is in the north-west of the Central African Republic. Kambakota
Kambakota or Kamakota is a village located in the Central African Republic prefecture of Ouham-Fafa. History In 1985 UNICEF built three wells in Kambota, two of which had broken down as of 2008. In March 2008 around 1,400 displaced people arrived there from other villages. On 1 December 2016 it was reported that Kambakota was under control of MPC. As of October 2018 Kambakota was under control of Anti-balaka The Anti-balaka is an alliance of militia groups based in the Central African Republic in the early 21st century said to be composed primarily of Christians. Kaga-Bandoro
Kaga-Bandoro is a market town and capital of the Nana-Grébizi prefecture of the Central African Republic. It represents the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kaga–Bandoro. History On 25 December 2012 rebels from Séléka coalition took control of Kaga-Bandoro. On 14 December 2015 rebels announced independence of Republic of Logone in Kaga-Bandoro. In September 2016 Kaga-Bandoro was reported to be under joint control of MPC and FPRC armed groups. In December 2019 four armed groups were reportedly present in Kaga-Bandoro: MPC, FPRC, Anti-balaka and UPC. On 10 April 2021, the FACA and their Russian allies entered the city of Kaga-Bandoro. Internally Displaced Person
An internally displaced person (IDP) is someone who is forced to leave their home but who remains within their country's borders. They are often referred to as refugees, although they do not fall within the legal definitions of a refugee. At the end of 2014, it was estimated there were 38.2 million IDPs worldwide, the highest level since 1989, the first year for which global statistics on IDPs are available.
