Lord's Resistance Army
The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), also known as the Lord's Resistance Movement, is a rebel group and heterodox Christian group which operates in northern Uganda, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Originally known as the United Holy Salvation Army and Uganda Christian Army/Movement, its stated goals include establishment of multi-party democracy, ruling Uganda according to the Ten Commandments, and Acholi nationalism. In practice "the LRA is not motivated by any identifiable political agenda, and its military strategy and tactics reflect this". Party of the Rally of the Central African Nation (PRNC, french: Parti du rassemblement de la nation centrafricaine) is an armed group in the Central African Republic based in northern part of the country, splinter group from Patriotic Rally for the Renewal of the Central African Republic. History On 28 May 2019 former RPRC general Issa Issaka Aubin issued a communique announcing creation of PRNC and naming Nourd Gregaza as its president. PRNC participated in MLCJ offensive on Birao on 1 and 2 September 2019 was well as Tissi and Am Dafock. On 10 September around 50 PRNC fighter entered Birao, assisting in repelling FPRC attack on 14 September, led by general Mahamat Djouma. Central African Patriotic Movement (MPC, french: Mouvement patriotique pour la Centrafrique) is a rebel group in the Central African Republic based in nortwestern part of the country. History MPC was formed in July 2015 by Mahamat Al-Khatim. In October 2016 they were accused in taking part in attack which killed 37 civilians, however Al-Khatim denied these claims. In May 2018 MNLC leader, Ahmat Bahar announced that his group was merging with MPC. Popular Front For The Rebirth Of Central African Republic
Popular Front for the Rebirth of Central African Republic (FPRC, french: Front populaire pour la renaissance de la Centrafrique) is a rebel group in the Central African Republic which controls areas of the northern part of the country, until 2021 based in N'Délé. History The FPRC was formed on 10 July 2014 in Birao, consolidating the member forces' control over the northern prefectures. They were one of the parties of the February 2019 peace deal. In September 2019, they lost control of Birao. On 17 February 2020 FPRC fighters tried to recapture Birao by attacking local MINUSCA forces. Their attack was repelled and 12 fighters were killed. On 17 December 2020, an FPRC faction led by Noureddine Adam joined the Coalition of Patriots for Change, while the faction led by Abdoulaye Hissene remained committed to the 2019 peace agreement. Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC, french: Unité pour la paix en Centrafrique) is a rebel group in the Central African Republic which controls southern parts of the country. History UPC was formed on 17 September 2014 by Ali Darassa from ex-Séléka elements. Their initial headquarters was Bambari, however they were forced to retreat on 6 March 2017. On 10 January 2019, they launched a heavy attack on MINUSCA forces in Bambari vowing to recapture the city. They were repelled and in response Portuguese paratroopers raided their base in Bokolobo seizing some weapons and destroying some checkpoints. On 17 December 2020, the UPC joined the Coalition of Patriots for Change. War crimes On 29 January 2019 18 people were killed and 23 wounded when UPC fighters opened fire during a funeral ceremony in Ippy. Between 2016 and 2020 UPC killed more than 1300 people. Return, Reclamation, Rehabilitation (3R, french: Retour, Réclamation et Réhabilitation) is a rebel group in the northwestern part of Central African Republic. History The group was formed in December 2015 to protect Fulani herders from Anti-balaka militia attacks. On 27 September 2016, they captured the town of De Gaulle (now Koui) killing at least 17 civilians. The Anti-balaka is an alliance of militia groups based in the Central African Republic in the early 21st century said to be composed primarily of Christians. However, some church leaders have contested the claimed exclusively Christian character of such groups. European Union Force RCA, commonly referred as EUFOR RCA, is the United Nations-mandated European Union peacekeeping mission in Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic. The goal of the mission is to stabilize the area after more than a year of internal conflict.
