2017–18 Dutch Basketball League
The 2017–18 Dutch Basketball League (DBL) was the 58th season of the Dutch Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands. The regular season started on 7 October 2017 and ended 21 April 2018. Donar is the defending champion. The playoffs started on 1 May and ended 29 May 2018. Donar captured its seventh championship, its third in a row and fourth in fifth years, after defeating ZZ Leiden in the finals. Teams Den Helder Suns entered the DBL for this season, which meant the return of a teams from Den Helder since the departure of Kings three seasons ago. Starting from the 2017–18 season, BSW Weert was dissolved and replaced by BAL. 2016–17 Dutch Basketball League
The 2016–17 Dutch Basketball League was the 57th season of the Dutch Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands. The season started on October 8, 2016 and ended May 25, 2017. Donar successfully defended its title. Teams Den Bosch and BSW were both close to bankruptcy in the offseason, but managed to stay alive. Challenge Sports Rotterdam changed its name to Forward Lease Rotterdam, after they got a new main sponsor. On November 1, Den Bosch changed its name to New Heroes. Foreign players The number of foreign players during the 2016–17 season was restricted to four per DBL team. Regular season The Regular season started on 8 October 2016 and finished 8 April 2017. Den Bosch Basketball
Heroes Den Bosch is a Dutch professional basketball club based in 's-Hertogenbosch. The club plays in the BNXT League since 2021 and in the top basketball division in the Netherlands since 1972. Founded as EBBC in 1951, the club had several sponsored names the following decades. Den Bosch has won a record seventeen Dutch championships, seven Dutch Cup and two Dutch Supercup titles. The team has also been a regular at European competitions, most recently the FIBA Europe Cup. Heroes plays their home games at the Maaspoort, which has a capacity of approximately 2,700 people. Den Helder () is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Den Helder occupies the northernmost point of the North Holland peninsula. Basketbal Academie Limburg
Basketball Academie Limburg, commonly known as BAL, is a Dutch basketball club based in Weert in the province of Limburg. The club was founded in 2013 as an academy to develop youth players from the province of Limburg. The club entered the Dutch Basketball League for the 2017–18 season after the dissolution of the professional team BSW. Currently, the team plays in the BNXT League. In 2021, BAL won its first-ever trophy when it won the DBL Cup in surprising fashion as the team was ranked eight in the DBL that season. The Kalverdijkje is an indoor sports complex in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. The complex has a swimming pool, and hosts basketball, volleyball and korfball matches. It is the home arena of professional basketball club Aris Leeuwarden of the Dutch Basketball League. The Kalverdijkje has two halls, the ''Egelantierhal'' and the ''Schieringenhal''; the latter is used most. Aris Leeuwarden plays its home games in this hall, which has a capacity of 1,700 people. The Apollohal is an indoor sports hall located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Built in 1934 as a tennis hall, the complex was later designated for expositions and ice skating. BSW Weert
Basketball Stars Weert, commonly known as BSW, was a professional basketball team based in Weert, Netherlands. The club was founded in 1968 and played in the Dutch Basketball League. Home games of the team are played in the Sporthal Boshoven. The club was a regular participant in the Dutch top division, as the side from Weert appeared in the Eredivisie (later DBL) for 34 straight seasons. The highlight of the club was the national championship in the 1993–94 season. The club finished three times as runner-up in the DBL: in 1988, 1993 and 2001. As well, BSW made European appearances with the most notable being the one in the FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup, the highest European level, in 1994–95.
