The 2017 MTN 8 was the 43rd edition of South Africa's annual soccer cup competition, the MTN 8. It featured the top eight teams of the Premier Soccer League at the end of the 2016-17 season. MTN 8
MTN 8 is the current branding for a South African soccer cup competition launched in 1972 for teams who finished in the top 8 positions of the league table of the country's preceding top-flight league (currently the DStv Premiership) season. The winners receive R 8 million and the competition's trophy, which is one of the three domestic trophies attainable by its competitors each soccer season, with the other two being the top-flight league title and the country's premier knock-out competition, the Nedbank Cup. Like the EFL Cup in England, the competition name bears its title title sponsor; from its launch until 2002, it was known as the '' BP Top 8'' and as the '' SAA Supa 8'' until 2008. Harry Gwala Stadium
Harry Gwala Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Premier Soccer League club Maritzburg United. In 2008 the stadium had a capacity of 10,000, but around September 2009 it was upgraded to 12,000 seats. The reason for this, was an urgent need for more high capacity stadiums in the region, particular being requested as part of the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup. The stadium, was initially planned to be able to seat 20,000 supporters, but the municipality revealed, that with the funds at their disposal, the stadium will have a capacity of just 12,000. Ayanda Patosi (born 31 October 1992) is a South African professional soccer player who plays as a left winger for Iranian club Foolad.
