2017 Hockey India League
The 2017 Hockey India League, known as Coal India Hockey India League for sponsorship reasons, was the fifth season of the Hockey India League. It was held between 21 January and 26 February 2017. Kalinga Lancers beat Dabang Mumbai 4–1 in the final to win their first title. Six teams played 34 matches in six venues with final played in Sector 42 Stadium, Chandigarh. The prize money was announced to be 3 crores INR. Punjab Warriors were the defending champions and were eliminated in the round-robin stage. Uttar Pradesh Wizards finished third, beating Delhi Waveriders in the third place playoff. Kalinga Lancers' Glenn Turner and Moritz Fürste finished as the tournament's joint top-scorers with 12 goals each. Dabang Mumbai's Florian Fuchs was named the Player of the Tournament. Hockey India
Hockey India plans, directs and conducts all the activities for both men and women hockey in India. It is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India as the sole body responsible towards promoting Hockey in India. It was formed after Indian Hockey Federation was dismissed in 2008 by IOA. Astroturf Hockey Stadium
Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium or Ranchi Hockey Stadium is a field hockey stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand. It serves as the home ground for Hockey India League franchise Ranchi Rays. It is located in Morabadi near Ranchi and has a capacity of approximately 5000. This was also the home ground of Hockey India League team Ranchi Rhinos. Initially built in 1990 then subsequently renovated. It is believed to be the newest and best stadium in India. It was inaugurated by then Governor of Jharkhand K Sankaranarayanan as a prelude to the 34th National Games scheduled to be organized in Jharkhand from 21 November 2009. Ranchi Rays (RCR) is an Indian field hockey team based in Ranchi, Jharkhand that competes in the Hockey India League (HIL). It was announced as the newest team to replace the defunct Ranchi Rhinos on 25 October 2014. It is owned by Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. History In September 2014 it was announced that the inaugural champions of the Hockey India League, Ranchi Rhinos, had withdrew from the league after the owners, Patel-Uniexcel Group, had come to a disagreement with Hockey India over some differences. The Kalinga Stadium is a multi-purpose International stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. Its foundation stone was laid by former chief minister of Odisha Late Biju Patnaik in 1978.
